Trump is getting my father's vote in MD

My dad went from Fiorina to Carson to Cruz and now Trump....

The entire primary my parents have labeled him crazy, obnoxious, idiotic, a conman, and there's no way they'd vote for him. But now their tune has changed because they don't want Hillary or Bernie. It's obvious Fox News controls their political thoughts, my parents use all the right words to lambast Obama and say Hillary will continue his policies, blah blah blah. The funny part is, my parents use Democratic social services like SS Disability, Medicare, and my dad had food stamps growing up.

What I'm trying to say is, my parents, who used to vote D in the 90s, and were #NeverTrump are now voting for him because "It's only 4 years".

We cannot underestimate Trump.

Which is funny, because the Supreme Court is what it's also about for me.

The ACA gave me health insurance, my father in law (republican with s4 lung cancer) health insurance and removed the lifetime limit on my mom's health insurance (cancer). My dad says Obama is destroying the country but he can't point to anything.

I tried to rationalize by saying "Hillary won't get us in WW3, Trump might" he didn't want to hear that.

the coming decades, the Legislative Branch will be skewing away from them. Especially when it comes to social issues. Therefore, Republicans see the Judicial Branch as their only salvation. With that in mind, come October they will have talked themselves into comparing Trump favorably to Reagan.

by demonizing liberals. Sanders's tax increases--not to mention the other stuff--would be enough to get them out in force.

Mine are Never Trump, and have never ever voted for a Dem for president even in 1976 post Watergate. They gleefully voted for Nixon twice, Reagan twice and W twice. Gleefully.

But lately I'm hearing both rationalize:"Well, Bill Clinton did some things that were ok I guess."

It's been interesting to watch. I don't think they will vote for Hillary, but at least two GOP lifers find Trump repellent enough not to vote for him.

I expect they're not alone.

I was very surprised to hear my dad say this stuff last night.

I don't see how a rational person can vote for Trump, unless they just like "fun".

Just as you said. I make it a point not to talk much about politics with my parents as it usually leads to nastiness so I haven't had a chance to get to deep into why they're Never Trump. It's even odder given that they loved his dumb TV show.

Oh well family trumps (pun not intended) politics I guess. Or at least it should.

Better yet, just don't bring it up with your folks. It won't change their minds and you'll put yourself at risk for a stroke.

Funny. Fox News seems to be a go-to source these days for many members of this website.

They just despise Hillary more than I can explain and will do anything to make sure she does not become president.

They are both lifelong democrats too.

Just like most DEMs will rally around Clinton.

She's their only shot.
