2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy donate to Obama now?
Around October 17th, I received an email that this was the last opportunity to give, and there was something about the FEC deadline mentioned. So I gave.
Since then, I have received numerous emails to continue donating. Today's email said that "The final budget meeting of this campaign is tomorrow, and we're fininshing this election out with the resources we have on hand at midnight tonight."
The question is, given the $1 billion dollars or so already raised, what difference would it make to give more money now?

(216 posts)They are basically trying to match the last minute desperation tactics from Romney camp, not just tv ads but mailers, flyers, radio ads, etc.
My impression is that they don't want ANYTHING to go unanswered in the final stretch, and I guess that costs money.

(1,206 posts)If they have to respond to anything, I think it would only be via web ads, and then hoping MSNBC or some other network picks it up because it's going viral. There have been wall-to-wall ad coverage already. As someone else pointed out, I don't think anymore ad time can be bought.

(53,029 posts)I donated on Oct. 31. Yesterday they sent me an email asking for another. It's too late to buy advertising. What are they going to do with that money? I need it more than they do. I'm done giving to the campaign. I'll do GOTV all weekend and on Tuesday, but no more money.

(1,206 posts)I don't monetarily support candidates which are heavily favored to win, or a national party at large, because they can deploy the money in ways I cannot track. I like support specifc efforts in specific areas.
If there's going to be some legal challenge, I think those attorneys should do it pro-bono because they will get name recognition, have networking opportunities, and this will result in a lot of business for them down the line.
