also vote for him.

Because Dalton is popular in the smaller parts of the state. And McCory is popular in Mecklenburg county. McCory has to win big in Charlotte to win.

McCrory has been fundraising for the past 6 years trying to win the Governorship. Dalton, while a good candidate, has too many things working against him. Bev not announcing till January that she would not seek reelection pretty much killed whoever decided to run on the D ticket. As you pointed out, Dalton doesn't have a ton of name recognition and because of his late start in fundraising and campaigning it was just too much to make up. McCrory had a 6 year stash of money and has killed Dalton $5M to $1.4M in fundraising the last 3 months. That pattern has been similar for the entire season. Per the N&O, McCrory's campaign outspent Dalton by a 4-to-1 margin from July 1 through Oct. 20 and had a 6-to-1 cash advantage entering the final two weeks of the campaign. Dalton doesn't have the funds to paste his name everywhere and dig out of the hole that Bev threw him in.

Also dems don't have a shining record in the public eye right now. Easley was caught up in a scandal after he left office. Bev is been seen as a do nothing governor because she's faced the same obstacles against the GOP legislature that Obama has faced with Congress and hasn't really been able to do much. Pretty much any meaningful legislation she has vetoed, the legislature has convinced enough blue dog dems to crossover and vote to override the veto. She was Lt. Governor during Easley's term and has been hinted as being part of the Easley scandal. McCrory has been effective at making the Dalton-->Perdue-->Easley connection in the voters minds.

As an employee of the State of NC, I am not at all looking forward to a GOP controlled House, Senate and Governor to rubber stamp all their tea party legislation. McCrory is all about privatizing as much as possible, which makes me quite concerned about my future employment with the State.

7. Really scary with Mccrory. He has campaigned on deregulation and fracking is in the pipeline.

He also refuses to disclose his tax returns which probably show all his ties to dirty money and being in bed with oil and gas industries and perhaps worse.

Not an employee of NC but really po'd at how the Dem's political game has effed up Dalton's chances but it's not over yet, if we can go blue again this election, Obama's coattails may slide Dalton in the back door.

6. I got an e-mail from Dalton's campaign today claiming an Elon poll shows Dalton
Tue Oct 30, 2012, 11:16 PM

ahead in early voting:

"We got new numbers today, and they look good for Walter Dalton.

According to Elon University, Walter is winning early vote, 52-44. That's an 8-point edge and 3 points higher than last week!"

Looking now to see if I can find the Elon poll they reference....but all I find are polls showing Dalton behind by about 15 points.

The only thing that COULD be happening is a large percentage of Dems voting straight ticket. If they do, with over 300,000
more Dem votes cast than Repubs at this point, there COULD be a chance that Dalton could squeak in. Hard to believe...but
it could happen.
