2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNew ? Hillary poster seems to attempt to evoke cult of personality, what does it say?
Google translate says: la hillary
estoy contigo
means "the hillary
I'm with you"
The poster looks a lot like posters used to promote the musical "Evita" which was about Evita Peron and starred Madonna.

(8,755 posts)Looks don't matter that much to me but I have smiled non-maliciously that Hillary Clinton's campaigning gear sometimes reminds me of Mao.
That said I am guilty of negative opinion regards Hillary Clinton.

(4,915 posts)be so sensitive. I'm not saying she is Eva Peron. I'm saying this particular image of her reminds me of images of Eva Peron.
Bernie's rumpled suits crack me up. Is that what you mean? His messy hair sometimes reminds me of Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
Not quite sure what your point is.

(30,481 posts)When one poster goes full on red-baiting, and says it reminds them of Mao, it quells some of the appearance of desperation by the op.
PufPuf23
(8,755 posts)as a candidate for POTUS.
Hillary Clinton is an attractive, well- dressed person.
Reflecting the Mao comparison is probably because of single color and closed neck outfits.
I am probably one of the last people one should listen to regards fashion. When I was younger and professional and dress mattered, my "nice" clothes were picked by my mother, girlfriends, or wives. I picked work (not suits or nice clothes for the office) and recreation clothes.
I would not judge on looks except for if there seemed to be a problem where an individuals was not taking care of themselves or dressed in appropriately and knowingly rude (neither instances having anything to do with the POTUS campaign).
The thought of redbaiting never crossed my mind and if there was any agenda to the post was to lighten the conversation.
That said I can see why some might compare Hillary Clinton in a negative sense to Evita and one could wonder why whoever made the (rather nice) poster did not consider the comparison might be made.

PufPuf23
(8,755 posts)It was an aside, why I typed "I would not judge on looks". I don't with the exceptions mentioned.
If I was a supporter of Hillary Clinton, I would have dropped my unique observation into an aside.
You are putting thoughts and agenda in my post that don't exist and never occurred to me.
If this was not the case, I would not bother to respond.
Look at my posts over the years at DU. I am not like that.
You will also find I consistently do not call candidates by "Bernie" and "Hillary"' which does sort of remind me of personality cults as does "Evita". I would call Hillary Clinton just Clinton (as I do Sanders) save for Bill Clinton.
You will also find that I was an any Democrat but Hillary Clinton in 2008 and feel the same now.
And I expect to be disappointed and probably vote for Hillary Clinton in Fall 2016 but never will support Clinton.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)I know, it was just about the looks of the unchallenged frontrunner for the democratic nomination.

I'm sure that has a lot to do with the red-baiting.
"Hillary Clinton appears to have resurrected Mao's tailor for campaigning garb." pufpuf23
PufPuf23
(8,755 posts)I meant nothing negative in the observation and if you cannot accept that it is your problem.
I have never red-baited a person in my life.
I am honest about my opinion of Hillary Clinton and how Clinton dresses is not relevant to me.
You can invent my thoughts and play with them as you will.
You do it all the time with other posters.
Feel good?

(814 posts)I'm sure Bernie may too but I think it's much more resonant in Hillary's campaign when these people look all starry eyed meeting her. It's also the narrative she has created on herself, as much as some progress she's made and fabricated. I would argue additionally I don't feel for many they have good reasons for supporting Hillary over Bernie. I am NOT referring to anyone on this forum.
Now, if Hillary really wants to be well thought of regardless, she should kidnap a few members of China's government and have them teach her people how to write history. The Chinese Admin.(going back to the Chinese Dynasties) are experts in revisionist History DESPITE the truth possibly being questionable, case in point: whether Tibet really belongs to China. I am NOT saying she has done nothing good, I am merely saying that they can spin and then later fabricate anything that be construed as negative in fact to the positive in the historical sense.

(4,667 posts)it evokes that kind of feeling.
Which, as a student of human rights issues, I find disturbing.
America is supposed to make no law respecting the establishment of any religion.
The founders of the United States found the idea of a personality cult around any leader "revolting".

(50,566 posts)It would be one thing if it were a "fan"-created homage, like the Shepard Fairey image of Obama. But coming from the top to be imposed on the peasants ... yeah. Weird.

One almost could wonder if Hillary Clinton's pose in the poster was inspired by Evita?
Baobab
(4,667 posts)maybe the early 90s?

(6,719 posts)Not sure if it was Madonna. Was she the original?
PufPuf23
(8,755 posts)for the theatrical production.
Evita the movie was from the 1990s and Madonna performed but did not compose the song.
Edit to note: The poster above is from the 1979 Broadway production of Evita.
