Why Are Bernie Sanders Groups Being Removed From Facebook?

Numerous popular Bernie Sanders Facebook groups and pages were removed from the social media giant today, causing thousands of members to wonder exactly what was happening. The removals all began happening around the same time on Monday, with people wondering if the removals might originate from a PAC that supports a rival campaign or if it’s just the work of unrelated trolls. What is going on? Will the groups return?

Here’s what you need to know.

number of Bernie Sanders Facebook groups, including some with more than 50,000 members, were removed from Facebook all around the same time on Monday. Facebook user Dorian Gray told Heavy.com that the synchronized attack appeared to take place while Sanders was talking at the Town Hall.

For groups that had been around for a while and were so popular, their removal was a pretty big deal and points to a massive, coordinated effort. The groups could be reinstated at any time, but at the time of publication, the removed groups included:

Bernie Believers
Bernie Sanders Is My Hero
Bernie or Bust
Bernie Sanders for President
Bernie Sanders – Ideas Welcome
Bernie Sanders Revolutionaries
Bay Area for Bernie


New versions of some of these groups have since been created, to help combat the removal, such as a new Bernie Believers that is at this link. And other new groups have been created to help the supporters still find a place to gather, like Bernie Sanders Reconvenes. But getting the word out to the 50,000 or more who were already members will be tough, so supporters are hoping the original groups will be reinstated soon."

Pictures of kiddie porn were posted to at least a few of the groups, and then alerted on. Mass alerts caused FB to automatically shut down the groups until they could be reviewed. An individual connected with Bros4Hillary bragged/confessed about doing it. He probably had accomplices, but from what group(s) I don't know.

It can't be anything but counter productive. You get angry voters who will not forget or forgive and who will make sure they get to the polls tomorrow to vote against Hillary as much as for Bernie.

Then you get the voters who maybe were wishy washy about Hillary to begin with, but had decided to vote for her getting a really uneasy feeling about carrying through with that vote. Tactics like that are just a bit to far for most people to feel easy with.

Not to say that there are not those who are cheering this action. There are those who believe that any thing is fair in political campaigns and war.

The people who pulled of this little prank just made it that much harder for Hillary to win in the GE, should she win the nomination.
