The joke within the joke

So late last night I posted a silly story about being a paid poster working for Big Math in a data mine in Siberia. I'm sure some people rolled their eyes and thought I was dismissing the notion of paid infiltrators on social media. The truth is, it is already very sad how much time I spend on this website because I enjoy it--I think it would be a whole magnitude sadder if I was coming here because it was a job.

And, honestly, I didn't write the story to make fun of paid posting. I wrote it because I thought the concept of working for Big Math was funny. And I wrote it because I wanted to hide another joke within it. Actually, that's the main reason I wrote it.

See, in real life I'm a very amiable and goofy guy. And that real personality came out last night. I'll be damned if that post falls into GDP obscurity without revealing the joke.

So, here it is. In a post about math:

Confessions of a paid poster

But it is not by my choice.

You see, Big Math outsources their posting needs to the data mine in Bogdanovich, Siberia where they can receive high quality analytical posts for only a fraction of a cost.

Thankfully, I don't work in the mine, itself. I have my own cube. I get two square meals a day that I'm allowed to eat at an actual table. One of the meals is even required to have root vegetables. My friends, they tell me, "Nikolai, be more positive. Your bad attitude is dividing everyone in the office. Do you want to go work in the mine with mean overseers? Where the chief mode of transportation is crawling through tiny tunnels? You've seen the people who work out there. They're so beaten down, they're only a remainder of their true selves."

And until today I've kept quiet about working in an industry that is multiplying so rapidly, growing exponentially every time someone asks questions about Clinton's polling numbers versus Sanders. But for too long I've kept quiet! I stopped being silent after watching an overseer's car strike a child miner on the median of the road into our plant. I'll never forget the indifference for which the ambulance personnel carried that one off to the hospital.

Not to get off on a tangent, but there is an acute lack of awareness about the deplorable conditions that child data miners are forced to work in. Incredibly, there have been no negative stories in the international news.

Anyway, from that day on, I started speaking out about our lives here in Bogdanovich. The supervisor, he say to me, "Nikolai, your work is regressing. You're foiling our efforts to make our quotas by doing less than your share of the work. Don't become a problem for me."

But I say never! My worth is greater than the count of my math posts! I will not stand by and observe the repeating nature of these injustices! They may say, "Nikolai, your problems are imaginary. You're being irrational", but I know better.

So remember! All else being equal, when you see a post covering statical significance in polling or an analysis of historical trends, it was probably created by those of us in Bogdanovich!

If I suddenly stop posting, don't try and find me. The powers driving this business will stop at nothing to cancel out opposition voices that are steadily increasing in volume. But I will not be minimized any longer!

And that is how I chose to spend my free time last night. I may have some kind of disorder...
