538 Blog: ‘Gender Gap’ Near Historic Highs

If only women voted, President Obama would be on track for a landslide re-election, equaling or exceeding his margin of victory over John McCain in 2008. Mr. Obama would be an overwhelming favorite in Ohio, Florida, Virginia and most every other place that is conventionally considered a swing state. The only question would be whether he could forge ahead into traditionally red states, like Georgia, Montana and Arizona.

If only men voted, Mr. Obama would be biding his time until a crushing defeat at the hands of Mitt Romney, who might win by a similar margin to the one Ronald Reagan realized over Jimmy Carter in 1980. Only California, Illinois, Hawaii and a few states in the Northeast could be considered safely Democratic. Every other state would lean red, or would at least be a toss-up.

Although polls disagree on the exact magnitude of the gender gap (and a couple of recent ones seemed to show Mitt Romney eliminating the president’s advantage with women voters), the consensus of surveys points to a large one this year — rivaling the biggest from past elections.

So pay no attention to the breathless reports of Obama's "disappearing" or "shrinking" lead with women.

especially when you read and talk to republican nitwits. I guess many macho men are threatened by women and fear they will lose control if they aren't brutish and sexist, etc. One sure way is to curtail women's reproductive rights and they are doing a bang up job of it. It angers me beyond my ability to express it civilly! Grrrrrrr..... PS I'm a woman!

Period. This is another ridiculous narrative created in the MSM. the polls can sample any way they choose.. I have seen equal numbers of men voting for the President. And I can't think of one couple I know that is split on the vote.

They need to make sure that voters with "suspicious" names like Jennifer or Amy don't commit voter fraud in November by going out to vote, leaving their poor, poor husbands to cook their own dinners.

And if anyone tells me that I "missed off the sarcasm thingie", then I shall not be held responsible for my actions.

Because they are ill-informed, because they lack critical thinking skills, because they are inifluenced by Romney's strong loud voice, because they like his confrontive style, because they are empathy inhibited, because they are unaware that Romney is a serial flip-flopper and liar (or they don't care), because they admire his ability to magnify his own wealth. Because they are more likely to be racist? Because they are more likely to watch Fox Cable "News" because they watch Fox Sports all the time. Actually, I don't know. Maybe they are just idiots.

How moranic is that paragraph? Number 1, it should be "If only WHITE men voted." 2 - Why not a "If only African Americans voted" or "If only Republicans voted? Madre de Dios!
