Democratic Socialist Definition , The short answer is, "A Democratic Socialist is a type of Capitalism that favors the middle class and working poor".
From their, further explanation can be explained or fallacies can be debunked.
No it does not lead to totalitarianism, authoritarian by tyrannic government & oligarchs. The opposite is true for it strongly prevents it. This is because at its core it for the democratic engagement, strong voter rights, the 4th and 14th amendments.
No it does not mean that the government is the means of production or it's the end of private property. It strongly believes in the right to a job and against trade deals that destroys our jobs. We are already a Socialist Democratic Country to a degree and the government does not make any widgets.
Democratic Socialism policies have been around for along time in different degrees brought by progressives à la Roosevelt's, Eisenhower to Obama. There is evidence that a lot of Democratic Socialism was born in USA and other countries copied some of are systems in the past.
Socialism that favors corporations and the oligarchs is "Corporate Socialism".
I heard other definitions of Democratic Socialism and they where too long. I am trying to find a short way to explain it to those who don't know the meaning and to the ones that use it as a pejorative or derogatory manner. This is my first post. I come here to get feedback or better answers. I think that "A Democratic Socialist is a type of capitalism that favors the middle class and working poor" is short and relatable.
