DENVER - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says he would honor temporary work permits for young illegal immigrants who were allowed to stay in the U.S. because of an executive order signed this summer by President Barack Obama.
Romney told The Denver Post, in an interview appearing in Tuesday's edition, that people who are able to earn the two-year visas to stay and work wouldn't see them revoked under a Romney administration.
"The people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place, which is a two-year visa, should expect that the visa would continue to be valid. I'm not going to take something that they've purchased," Romney told the Post, promising to put a comprehensive immigration reform plan into place before those visas expire.

When this comes up tomorrow night, Obama should say, "We'll have to make sure you don't have a spokesman put out a statement tomorrow saying that you changed your position again like you've done other times."

(60,536 posts)Obama Camp: Romney Still Opposes DREAM Act
PEMA LEVY 10:50 AM EDT, TUESDAY OCTOBER 2, 2012
Gabriela Domenzain, director of Hispanic press for the Obama campaign, said that Mitt Romney continues to oppose the DREAM Act in a statement Tuesday responding to Romney's promise not to revoke temporary work permits granted to young illegal immigrants under President Obama's new deferred action policy.
Romneys latest immigration pivot raises more questions than it answers. He still has not said whether he would continue the Administrations policy that provides a temporary reprieve from deportation for young people who were brought here through no fault of their own. Would he side with his extreme anti-immigration advisors and repeal this measure? What would he do with those who qualify for deferred action but havent received it? Would he deport those who have received a deferment when the program expires after two years? We know he called the DREAM Act a handout and that he promised to veto it -- nothing he has said since contradicts this and we should continue to take him at his word.

(290 posts)If you have a good moderator, these Romney flip flop messages would be brought up...there are so many, it shouldn't be hard for a good moderator who wouldn't even need to do his/her homework. I think it would be better if the moderator addressed them as opposed to Obama so it doesn't sound so defensive...
