Tammy Duckworth

I just attended a Legislative breakfast for suburban Chicago teachers and Tammy Duckworth was AMAZING! She told of how when she was young her family was briefly on Food Stamps and how she got free meals at school. She also told of how a teacher would offer projects after school to some kids and, low and behold, around 5:00 PM, the teacher (knowing many of these kids were not getting enough to eat) would get food brought in for the kids. As a kid, Tammy thought that some of the projects were a bit pointless and it was only later as an adult that she realize the teacher was just inventing things for kids to do, so that they would at least have a hot meal before they went home.

All of the teacher haters and union hating groups need to remember that there are thousands teachers who give a hell of a lot of their time, money, and energy to being a positive force in Americans student's lives.

It makes me so angry when phony politicians get away with portraying teachers as selfish, leeches on the government! When corrupt bankers ruin the economy and lose billions of invested teachers pension funds, the 1 % " says, "It was due to the market forces" and that taxpayers get stuck covering THEIR losses. When teachers fight for their rights including to save their pensions, they are greedy, selfish public servants, who do nothing and are over paid. We are officially through the looking glass folks!

I'm sorry that I can't recall the other woman's name right now, but I liked them both. Because that other woman had worked hard to make that congressional seat competitive when she first ran in 2008, I supported her although I really liked Tammy Duckworth also. Things got rather heated over here over split loyalties.

But it also reminded me, when I simply saw Tammy Duckworth as the OP header, of those divisive primary times at DU way back when, And that reminded me of the Obama vs Hillary wars as well. Hopefully we can do better in the future at DU remembering that it is possible for more than one of the Democrats fighting it out in primary fights to be worthy candidates. Our track record during big primary years here hasn't been all that great. Now most of us view Tammy and both Barack and Hillary as good Democrats, but it wasn't always so...

I know I am off on a tangent from your original point in support of teachers. I wholeheartedly agree with you on that point also (and figured a bump can't hurt )

Yes, I think that was her. She was a college professor, and a good candidate also.

She should be a character in a Disney cartoon!

Childish giggling aside... she is an amazing person!

famous choices. The DLC at it's finest, cause he was already planning on being Chicago's Mayor. Just greasing the skids. Rahmn is such a pile of stinking feces. Tammy would have carried that set instead of the prick Walsh. Rahmn sure knows how to choose his friends, doesn't he.

and she was at Walter Reed Army Med Center recovering from her injuries. I don't recall if she had her prosthetic legs or not but she told how in order to save her arm, they put her arm under a flap of skin on her stomach! Her husband was on this program with her and I thought then she was amazing and still think she is a STRONG and AMAZING woman!
