PoliticusUSA: "Here Are The Winners And Losers Of The Democratic and Republican Iowa Caucuses"

link; excerpt:

Winners:

1). Bernie Sanders – No matter who is officially declared the winner in Iowa, by running 50/50 with Clinton in the Hawkeye State makes Bernie Sanders a winner. Sanders now moves on to some nearby home turf of New Hampshire where he has a huge lead. Bernie Sanders delivered big in Iowa.

2). Ted Cruz...

3). Marco Rubio...

Losers:

1). Donald Trump- Trump promised major wins to his supporters then came out and fell flat on his face. Trump’s whole campaign was built on bluster, and that hot air has been proven to be empty. The reality television star became what he hates the most. Donald Trump is a now a loser.

2). Hillary Clinton- Even if Clinton is declared the winner, she split the caucuses with Bernie Sanders. The idea that Clinton will have an easy ride to the nomination has been shattered. Bernie Sanders brought out the younger and new voters in droves. Clinton relied on traditional Democratic voters, and it wasn’t enough to deliver her a clear win.

3). Jeb Bush...

4). Martin O’Malley and Mike Huckabee...

5). Sarah Palin- Palin was supposed to be the big gun endorsement that put Trump over the top in Iowa. Instead, Trump lost to the candidate that Palin threw to the curb. The idea that Palin is a kingmaker has been crushed. Sarah Palin is old news, and her endorsement might have hurt instead of helped Trump.

considering from whence he started--- down in the Iowa poll by 61 percentage points, to score a 50-50 percent precinct delegate split.

I think if we had raw vote totals, they would show a clear Sanders victory-- but Iowa Dems don't seem to publish those. This precinct delegate process can be pretty unrepresentative.

Hillary will win in conservative states, but those are the states that Democrats cannot win in November, so what good is winning the primaries in them.

Of course, if Bernie is our candidate, he could win a lot of votes in otherwise conservative states because he can get all those voters who lost their jobs, their homes, their hopes and their dreams to Republican greed to cross over and vote for him. Well, maybe not all of them, but probably enough of them to win.

I have thought since the first time I heard him speak that Ted Cruz would be the Republican candidate. The Republican Party has become the Party of the Christian Fundamentalists. Ted Cruz's speaking style is music to the ear of Christian Fundamentalists. I know. I grew up around them. My dad was a Methodist minister -- a liberal one -- but many in his congregations were Fundamentalists. I know the sound. Ted Cruz has it down.

Ted Cruz is really a I think Harvard Law School graduate. He is intelligent, but he has mastered the Fundamentalist vocabulary, thought sequences, quotations, and sound. It's Elmer Gantry through and through. And it's like honey to the Fundamentalists out there. I bet he sings hymns too. I bet he will just break into one sooner or later during the campaign season. And watch the Fundies swoon when he does.

Ted Cruz will not attract cross-over Dems in numbers large enough to make him a winner. That's my guess.

The only problem is that if we nominate Hillary, a lot of Dems will not show up to vote -- more out of disinterest than disgust most likely. And Republicans will hold their noses and vote for Cruz just because he isn't Hillary.

You'd be surprised at the otherwise rational people who believe the craziest things about Hillary. I've tried to defend her from the absurd accusations that abound, but it is hopeless. She really should not be running. I wonder if she knows what the slanderous rumors about her are. I am a total Bernie fan, but I do not believe the lies about Hillary. I don't think she is a good or likable candidate, but I do not think she is an evil person. Unfortunately many people do think she is.
