Karl Rove is losing it – for now

Karl Rove is losing it – for now
He's still the boss of the GOP, but boy did he blow it with Romney

BY CRAIG UNGER

Karl Rove is back as GOP party boss, but this time it’s clear that even the best-laid plans of the savviest political strategists often go awry.

That became obvious earlier this week, on September 25, when Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Akin reaffirmed that he was staying in the race in defiance of Rove, who had demanded Akin’s withdrawal and yanked American Crossroad’s millions from his campaign after Akin touted the prophylactic character of “legitimate rape.”

When pulling the Super PAC dough didn’t faze the stubborn Missouri Tea Partier, Rove went ballistic. “We should sink Todd Akin,” he declared, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. “If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!”

Rove’s remarks did more than just reopen the schism between the GOP establishment he embodies and the Tea Party, which has begun to see him as a ruthless party boss. It also showed that the Republicans have another serious problem in addition to Mitt Romney’s disastrous candidacy: Karl Christian Rove.

Rove’s comment about Akin was not the first time this campaign that he linked himself to murder. At the Republican Convention in Tampa, in response to a question I asked him at a CSPAN-televised event, Rove falsely asserted that my new book, Boss Rove: Inside Karl Rove’s Secret Kingdom of Power, accused him of being a murderer—an apparent reference to the 2008 death of his computer guru, Mike Connell. Again, the “murder” comment was off point and completely unnecessary.

Let’s get this straight: Out of the blue, this highly disciplined, message-centric Machiavellian strategist has completely unnecessarily associated himself with murder. Twice. What is Karl Rove smoking?

- he should be buried on an island somewhere." Funny comment to the article.

2. Maybe his conscience is bothering him?

Maybe he's not sleeping well.

Maybe his plotting is spilling over into the speech portion of his brain?

Just thinkin'.

6. Karma should have caught up.....

with that evil Toad 20 years ago. He can't run for office because he is as dirty as last weeks trash. He preffers to be the puppet master and king maker. And yes, he has been playing the right like a Strativaris.

His MO is sliming decent people. He loves salacious sex scandals and smear campaigns. Some of his classics: the whisper campaign in Texas that Ann Richard was gay, John McCain fathered a black child (the young child was adopted from India) prior to the South Carolina primaries when he was ahead of Bush, the prosecution and persecution of Don Seigelman of Alabama. He is suspected to be the brains behind Julius Assange's rape charges (imagine what he could do with the wiki leaks information).

He should have done prison time with all of Nixon's other crooks. I am glad to see him with egg on his face with Romney. I just wish it could be tar and feathers. Once you understand Rove, you can small his shit a mile away.

12. Canned ham with glasses

Speaking of ham, I'm always struck how porcine both Rove and Limbaugh look.

10. For sure that was a murder

After the guy was going to turn State's evidence on Rove's lousy ass, all of a sudden he turns up dead. But the RapeubliCON sheriff declares it a mystery, I guess, or they would have done a thorough investigation.

16. Rove threatened Connell

Said he had to take complete responsibility for the plan and its (successful) implementation, or else. Connell refused, and the rest is history. KR wins again. Had Connell not fixed the Ohio numbers, Kerry would have rightfully won in 2004.
Nobody crosses KR and gets away with it.

11. It's not that tough.

basically the Dems finally have grown a spine and are using roves tactics against him.

he's really not a complex thinker.

The Dems on the other hand when using roves tactics then combine it with lots of smarts has a pretty predicable outcome: the repukes flail.

I keep imagining rove all angry and biting and swearing into his fists, "Curses, foiled again!"

I would not be surprised if murder is just one of his many dark deeds. Karl plays to win and had had a lot of power given him.I wonder what he knows about Paul Wellstone 's plane crash?

I won't consider justice served until someone figures out how to take all his money and actually make him have to hold down a real job. If only someone could pull off what Murphy and Aykroyd did in Trading Places then all would be right in the world

17. Rove actually wrote a piece today in the WSJ accusing OBAMA of lying!!!

As if Romney, the biggest pathological liar of any nominee in history, was a man of total truth!

As Robert Reich (Clinton Labor Secretary) said recently, Romney is the biggest liar he has seen in the 7 Presidential Elections during his lifetime!!

The average American still doesn't know who he is, and the average Republican will still take his money any day of the week.
