Racism in Japan

Anyone want to weigh in on this? I am debating someone who claims there is none (American living in Japan who says the US is so Roman-empire over, is violent and that he is glad he lives in Japan where there is no such violence).

Is he right or wrong?

I was coming across some information about Koreans who live in Japan. And there are more immigrants recently.

It's definitely not "in your face", but I have experienced it on occasion. For example, the first time I went looking for an apartment in Japan, I was told by the first real estate agent I talked to that she was not going to show me anything because I was a foreigner. Then there was the time I had almost made reservations for some ryokan inn in some hot spring resort, but was told that they wouldn't accept my reservation because I was a foreigner. Some gal at a barber shop wouldn't cut my hair because I was a foreigner. And some guy in Hitachi said to me, "Hayaku kuni e kaere!" ("Hurry up and go back to your own country!&quot as I was passing him in the street. But all of these incidents took place more than 10 years ago.
