If you live in California or near Seattle, (or in Japan of course), check out the Daiso Japan stores.
They are a chain of $1.50 stores (100 yen stores in Japan).
The quality and variety is striking and they have many traditional Japanese items also.
Everything is $1.50 with a few exceptions.
It's fun to explore and you can find many things that aren't available elsewhere.
One example: Here in the US clipboards are always vertical and only letter or legal size.
Daiso has horizontal clipboards as well and large vertical and horizontal ones that handle tabloid size paper.
Nicely made and only $1.50 each.
They have snacks, kitchen supplies, office supplies, sushi making stuff, containers, art supplies, party supplies, wrapping paper, dress shirts, ties, cups, bowls, bags, shower stuff, makeup, cell phone and computer accessories, car accessories, toys, tools etc.
The chain is expanding rapidly and I hear will soon spread out to other areas of the US.
Here are some photos from Yelp that give you an idea of their products.

(10,274 posts)I'm not sure of the details but I'm under the understanding that they are run by a religious group Soka Gakkai. Nevertheless it's a great chain.
