Every thread in old GD seems to be about not coming to DU3.
With some real bridge-burners included. Is it strange to anyone else how wound up some people have gotten over this changeover? Don't get me wrong, I love DU...but this *is* DU, with some excellent improvements, and some stuff that needs work...but still DU.
Just very strange to me.

Some just don't like change. Others think they're going to get banned over here, for some reason I don't understand. Most don't understand how the host and jury system works, so they don't like it on principal, even if they have no idea how it works.

I know there were times I felt like the character at the very end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, people I thought I knew turned into right-wing war-loving monsters all around me.
It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of them have convinced themselves this is a purge of those who are too liberal, after the last eleven years it's not really all that difficult to understand it. |

Hell, William, this is DU! I fully expected things to devolve into a war between the two DUs as long as both forums are live. That is SOP here and I'm not surprised in the least. For every person who thinks something is great, there is one who will take the opposite point of view. And then there are those who will see the long arm of corporate influence everywhere, including here.
It one of the reasons I love DU. You will always find another point of view. |

42. Under the hood it was a pretty radical upgrade.
|
They'd been adding more and more hamster wheels to DU1, but they still couldn't keep up. Then I think PETA broke in one night and tried to free the little furies. It was pretty ugly.
That's when Skinner & crew replaced the hamster wheels with a database engine and called it DU2. Quite a few of the hamsters ended up in General Discussion, which actually explains quite a bit of that place's troubles, especially during primary season... |

I suspect rather than facing their "problems" they prefer to keep them and complain to each other about them in comfort. |

38. Some real old DUers are coming on DU2 and saying good bye like Sapphocrat
|
It's got a kind of smokey, end-of-the-party feel, where that last group of good friends are slightly stoned and very mellow at 2 am, sloped against each other on the squashy chairs and sofas.....
Honestly, some of those "great" voices aren't going to come over. It's the last convo, it's that delicious part of the evening when secrets get spilled and the laughter is soft and reminiscent. I didn't mean to hang on over there but my bookmark was still set there and so DU2 came up as usual. That's when I discovered how excellent it is there at the moment. |

82. Very nice posts from you. Thank you. The nastiness towards people who have their own reasons
|
for feeling the way they do, the lack of understanding, this is not the DU I remember.
I've been here on DU3 since the beginning, so had no problem with it at all. But seeing some of what is going on here now, I'm beginning to feel maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to think it was all going to be alright. I do not want to belong to a community that is constantly 'mocking' people. It reminds me of school bullying and I never could tolerate bullies. It is so far removed from what I always thought of regarding DU where people were always so kind and generous, that I may have to rethink also, my participation here. One thing is for sure, those who have made it difficult for people to come over here, are not helping the site. Anyhow, thank you for your posts, they are more what I would expect from DUers. |

|
Because I have opted to leave DU2 gracefully, and not kicking and screaming, doesn't make me wholly thrilled with the current Dem Party and Administration (I am far less than thrilled), and marching in lockstep. The fact that this has been trumpeted over and over again makes it a little less soft for me. But DU is DU, whether here or there, and that is to be expected. I did get an awesome time to reconnect with Sapph...which made the whole strange thing worth it.

|
Some have really dissed the whole DU experience, probably to the point where they'd be rather hypocritical to start up here when DU2 shuts down, under their current nom 'de plume. But, at the end of the day, they're going to want to be involved on the board....so re-registering under a new name will be the likely way to ease back in. It's an addiction, after all.

44. The amount of WORK that went into DU3, and they're not even giving it a chance?
|
I don't think those people have any conception whatsoever of how much work it is to build something like this from scratch. I used to work in IT, so I have a pretty good idea. The coding, the database, the debugging, all of it takes a shit load of time.
Even if you don't like the end result, it's BEYOND insulting to not even give it a CHANCE and sit around at the OLD site to whine about it. |

The fact they have let DU2 stay open a few days is to their credit. I don't understand why some people have a problem with others not wanting to come to DU3 or are that are hesitant. It is a free choice they make and it should be a respected one. I always respect people's freedom. |

|
We needed a thread here for people to pile on and point fingers and make up all kinds of frivolous reasons those posters prefer DU2? Because that's exactly what this thread turned out to be. Fancy that.
You might notice that in DU2 all these posts giggling and finger pointing at other DU members would have gotten deleted because we were supposed to be judging posts and not posters, and certainly not an entire swath of posters. And rightly so. So, right here you have a prime example of the kind of ugliness that a lot of us predicted would happen here and wouldn't have under a mod system that worked as intended and uniformly on DU2. Congratulations for helping to confirm we are correct. And now I no longer even have the option of hiding this giggly, finger pointing and poster bashing thread now that I'm done with it. |

Whereas the administrators of this site have been seeing the entire picture all along. They have seen who would Unrec any and all threads positive to Democrats for years. We haven't had that insight.

Watch every thing you say or the jury convenes... Posts and threads were deleted with good common sense in the old DU---Now we have 6 opinions and you know what they say about opinions... Jesus---I told someone their post was horseshit---here comes the Jury... Really Nope---the jury will be this place undoing...bank on it. Now go ahead---alert this post and convene the jury. |
