My personal philosophy about DU

I don't know, maybe writing this will be good for me or another person out there. At the least, it won't harm anyone. Here goes....

I'm not here to hurt anyone, in any way.

I'm not here to WIN at all costs, to beat my "DU opponent" into the ground with my intellect, logic, data, etc.

Have I made mistakes and said a few inadvisable things on DU ? Of course. I do my best, as we all do.

I'm here to learn. Maybe have a "DU friend". I'm a loner, so, yea, "DU company" is nice at times.

I'm sure everyone disagrees with me on at least one topic, and the reverse is true for me. I think we can be respectful and civil about it. When the respect and civility goes away, there is no way I'm changing my mind, and I'm sure the same is true of others on DU.

At any rate....that's me. Sometimes I feel like I should lurk only, but.... I like to talk.

Happy holidays, group members !

2. These DU people are asshole and idiots with the power of a vote

It does not matter what you say or what you know; because if you are talking to some one who does not need to know to judge you you are fucked. I have never been on a more rotten, morally and mentally rotten site in my life, and as soon as I self delete everything I possible can I am out of here.

There was once a man ostracized in Greek society, and this involved casting votes on ostra, pieces of broken pottery. One citizen who did not even know the man he was ostracizing, or have anything against him happened to ask that same man how to write his name, which the man did for him because the voter could vote, but not write. Where lesser people get to sit in judgment of their betters the better men are condemned. This is the constant course of progress, and why idiots are so prevalent.

This is what these voters have said: They don't know what I am saying, but they think I say too much. Those who have charged me misrepresent what is said; and have even gone to the dictionary and cannot disprove with a dictionary what I said to be the case. What retards to lay out the evidence against me only to see it proves them wrong, and still not get it. They do not know past tense from present tense, and once they stop the conversation because they can't figure it out, then you cannot even talk to them let alone convince them, or educate them. I not going to be judged by idiots. They have not got a clue. Warren stupidity should fight his stupid head, for example. Heddi is as stupid as the day is long, but she threatens me? With what? 90 days time out? The internet is full of better sites.

There is no cure for assholes, but distance helps. And if this site tolerates such shithead behavior there is no excuse for them. What have these people read.? What do they know. and why does the site allow this bastardization of democracy? Where is the jury of peers when people openly admit their ignorance and still vote? Where is the right of appeal? Off of a thread they can still abuse you, and HOW in a true democracy would that help anything? People point to majority rule and say: See; democracy does not work. Majority rule is still rule, and not self government.

Democracy is not the tyranny of the stupid over the wise. Majority rule can certainly seem so. Aristocrats prefer the rule of the best because of the trouble of educating idiots, but true democracy would ask every single voter: What is your interest in this cause. No interest means no cause, and if you have a reason to be interested then you have a reason to voice your opinion. This majority rule bullshit is the absolute worst, destructive form of democracy. When some one can admit that they don't know what is right or which way is up and still cast a vote, and that vote hides posts, and stops the conversation, then it puts control in the hands of people who too easily take offense, and those who know nothing. The problems with this site are never going to be the solution to the problems in America. They are exactly the problem in America. The idiots always win.

You need to understand that you owe these people exactly nothing more than the civility they are willing to show. It is not your job to entertain them. It is not your job to educate them and it is certainly not your job to candy coat the truth for them. If they don't know the difference between vitamins and gummy bears give them gummy bears; but there you see the problem, that the unscrupulous pander to them and laugh at them for their stupidity. What a bunch of pukes. Haven't one of you people a back bone?

5. I hate the one-up-manship on DU, yet I've done it myself...,

when I catch myself doing it, I know it is time to take a break.
I think yr comment (OP) is so reasonable, and so rare on DU.

It seems like generally on du sarcasm reigns supreme.

wonder why that is.

it is unfortunate, bec. if one can separate the wheat from the chaff, there are a lot of creative, interesting, intelligent, kind people here.

I started to come often to du when I didn't sleep for a month or so. I'd doze for maybe an hour or so, but be awake for the better part of the night. So it was nice to be able to communicate with some folk when most people are asleep.

some of the forums (esp. GD) are so wearing, I often think I should leave. But then people tell me about forums (groups) which I didn't know existed,- like this one- and I just discovered the "state" groups, so I am exploring around.

And I found some real compassionate sensitive people who responded to a post on the Environment forum/Group.

Which it is always nice to meet such.

thanks for this post.
