40 inches of snow? Stevens Pass hopes to open lifts by Thanksgiving

Eric Wilkinson - November 21, 2014

Around 40 inches of snow is expected to fall at Steven Pass by Monday.

STEVENS PASS, Wash. – With a massive snow storm expected in the Cascades this weekend, workers are getting ready for an avalanche of skiers and snowboarders at Stevens Pass.

"If everything goes right we could get up to 40 inches of snow by Monday," said ski area spokesman Chris Danforth. "This is white gold for us!"

...We've hired 50% more parking employees, brought in some more heavy equipment for snow removal. That'll help us park more cars within the parking lots that we currently have," said Danforth.

The Mission Ridge ski area just outside Wenatchee opens Saturday. Mount Baker is hoping to open near Thanksgiving. Snoqualmie Pass likely will have to wait until at least early December.

I was on the Mukilteo ferry last week and I don't think I've ever seen the Cascades as bare of snow.
