they wasted their time doing nothing concrete to help for a different reason than they originally thought.

I like this part:

after suffering such indignity, did the dog get to eat the slice of ham? I certainly hope so, or else there is no justice in this world.

Something like that??? I'm confused by this story. This is nothing new, I'm often confused by doorknobs. But still, that doesn't seem like a very Xian response. Oh wait - sure it does...
