"Only God is right all the time."

Standard Disclaimer - this is posted in the Atheists/Agnostics group, a safe haven. If aggrieved, contact our corporate law firm, Dewey Cheatham & Howe.

From the Friendly Atheist:

Amanda Berry is one of the 3 women held captive for 10 yrs by Ariel Castro in Cleveland.

In 2004, Berry watched her mother appear on the Montel Williams Show with fake psychic and general all-purpose fuckhead Sylvia Browne. (Hey, if you want high-toned objective journalism, go read The Economist.)

Both Amanda and her mother were absolutely convinced Browne had real psychic powers. So Amanda waited anxiously for Browne to say she was alive.

Browne told Berry's Mom unequivocally that her daughter was dead. Berry's mother went home, took down the yellow ribbons, and sold all of Amanda's stuff. A little later Berry's mother died. Friends said she was never the same after hearing Browne's bogus bullshitting.

And what did Browne have to say when Amanda publicly complained about her bullshit?

Read the SUBJECT line again. That's what Browne said.

I almost made the SUBJECT line: "Sylvia Browne Dead, Still An Asshole." But I figured some other asshole would Alert on me for disrespecting the deceased.

1. Sometimes I think Exodus 22:18 was written with Slickster Browne in mind.

We'd have been better off without her huckster act, no doubt.

Don't worry.... "Crossing Over's" John Edwards is still around to abuse people at their most vulnerable moments.

....and who devastated people with her wrongness. Charlatans, all of them. Just like those who say that if you believe in a mythical being just the right way, you'll have some sort of brownie points and eternal reward when you're too dead to give a shit.

See, I have never understood people who go through horrible things insisting they trust in god. Your god did this to you - if you believe one exists. Your GOD doesn't give you comfort; your belief does. So you could believe in a doorknob and get the same result.

5. Sylvia Browne’s supposed grave

at Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose, CA:

It should be inscribed: She’s not alive, honey. But she’s not buried here. I hate this when they’re in water. I just hate this.

7. San Jose? There's some irony.

San Jose is home to the Winchester House.

Named for Sarah Winchester, widow of the Winchester Arms founder, who suffered the deaths of her husband and her only child in quick succesion.

With the poor woman driven half-crazy by grief, naturally a phony medium stepped in to solve all her problems.

The medium told her she was being haunted by the ghosts of people killed by Winchester rifles. And she could only remove the curse if she built a house large enough for all the dead people to live in!

Mrs. Winchester continuallly worked on her house for nearly 40 years. During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, her bedroom door shifted and trapped her alone in her bedroom for hours. Which probably drove her even crazier.

The house is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the neighborhood. Stairs go up into blank walls, doors open to nowhere. The kitchen features 13 drainholes in each sink and 13 panes of glass in each window.

Every Halloween, someone spends the night in Mrs. Winchester's bedroom. Usually a skeptical journalist type. No one has ever reported anything weird, other than the normal sounds expected from an old house.

Of course, the woo-woos insist the place is still haunted, bla-bla-bla...

Well, I remember watching a tv program about it once. What a fascinating story it is. Sad, too.

Back then, I suppose lots of people believed in ghosts and haunted houses - unlike today (ahem).

I always enjoy your posts, onager.

Somebody from this group PM'd me once to ask why I didn't set up a blog. Where I could rant at random and at length about any old off-topic topic that crossed my alleged mind.

Told them I was already doing that, in here.

Browne had her defenders on DU, most of them hate James Randi with a white hot passion (I wonder why ).
I despise them almost as much as that vile woman.

I would compare her to a hyena or vulture, but non-human scavengers come by their trade honestly.
