Xposted in Religion. Pope Francis: Kids Must Have Moms and Dad

http://www.advocate.com/politics/religion/2014/04/11/pope-francis-kids-must-have-moms-and-dads

Pope Francis says children must be raised with 'the complementarity of the masculinity and femininity of a father and a mother.'

Pope Francis offered his sharpest critique against so-called nontraditional families on Friday morning, suggesting that the church must advocate for the rights of children to be raised "in the complementarity of the masculinity and femininity of a father and a mother."

...

Back in December, Bishop Charles Scicluna of Malta said he discussed adoption of children by same-sex couples with Pope Francis. The bishop said the pope was "shocked" by the idea, and that he was encouraged to preach against the idea during Christmas services.

As archbishop of Buenos Aires in 2010, before he was elected pope, then-Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio said children raised by same-sex parents were suffering a form of discrimination.

Speaking out against a proposed law to legalize same-sex marriage in Argentina, Bergoglio said, "At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children. At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God’s law engraved in our hearts.”

Nice to see he's so different. So inclusive. He's the new Pro-Gay pope. Glad to have him around. Nice breath of fresh air from the last one who REALLY HATED GAY PEOPLE or something.

Because of a woman relative who had a lot of influence on me in my childhood.

This was a long time ago, in the Deep South. She was a young married woman with 2 little kids. Her husband was a drunk and a doper. She divorced him, went to work and raised the kids by herself. This was at a time when SUCH THINGS JUST WERE NOT DONE!!!

And WTF was she supposed to do? Latch onto another guy? She certainly didn't lack for dates, I went on some of them with her when I was a kid. Dump her children into an orphanage or onto the tender mercies of CPS until she re-married? (Which she never did, BTW.)

I saw how hard it was for her just to survive. And I heard the gossip about her, often from people claiming to be good Xians.

But I'll sure be remembering this quote, the next time I hear somebody claiming that this corporate CEO in his gold prom dress is "relevant" and "in touch with our times."

And I don't need to read the crosspost into the other group. I already know all the excuses and rationalizations by rote.

His gold prom dress!

And you are right, there are worse things for the kids and the mother (or father) than living in a single parent household. Ask me and my siblings. I am amazed that we all ended up ok.

"other" forum who like to alert posts in the A/A forum. It is there way of disrupting this forum. There is a bias against atheists on DU, especially when it comes to the jury system on DU3.

I'll never alert on their posts, because 1. They should be able to say whatever the hell they want to say in their own little echo chamber, and 2. if I alerted on one of their posts, it would mean I gave a shit about what they actually posted.

I expect the same treatment in this group.

Oh those poor persecuted christians! They can't handle what the mean little atheists have to say!

Yes, kids from same sex households can get bullied. So can kids from hetero households.

Focus on the fucking bullies instead of making bullied kids feel they're somehow wrong or responsible for being bullied.

Maybe he should stick to economics.

She is now a single mother.
Children need loving supporters and family.

Having a mommy and daddy doesn't garantee a well adjusted kid

Francis should blame Yahweh for her condition of being a single parent.

Perhaps only to sell more copies on the newsstands of NYC or Miami Beach.

Does anyone have any knowledge of how many practicing gay Catholics there are these days?

Dear Francis must have lost a few more million around the world this week. I can see some of them changing their wills as we speak.

many of us "responded" to their little announcement on their website and there were more angry folks than folks in agreement.
