(13,029 posts)The thinking by some here that they can put anything they want in quotes and attribute it to someone else, even though that person said nothing like it, simply because it is their right to substitute any meaning they'd like to invent for what the speaker actually meant.

(18,312 posts)so sweet, like a little fruit candy. Doing my mindless-eating-while-studying thing I ate, oh, like half the bag of prunes.
THat was possibly *the* worst mistake I've ever made in my entire life.

(34,582 posts)luckily I don't have wallpaper in the bathroom.
We went to a little restaurant we visit often and I got the calamari appetizer special. $5 for calamari!! What could possibly go wrong???
About 4 am I could not figure what was left in my body to be expelled. There was NOTHING left. It was like getting a high colonic for the low low price of $5.
Mr. Heddi's like "sweet. Next time we go can I have the whole plate???" :-/

The comments are pure gold, too.

(48,181 posts)Well not here as in this forum, but here as in DU and one particular forum. The echo of certain familiar posting stylings is downright weird.

(12,153 posts)I cringe when I think of what "Suffer the little children to come unto me" means to them.
Suffer: allow
Women's suffrage: Women's rights!
It's depressing to realize how ignorant many people are.

(18,312 posts)I'm sure we have. The "I'm always right, even when I'm wrong, now shut up" is just so...so...familiar.

Long as I'm here...I enjoyed all the comments about re-defining words and doubling down.
I seem to be seeing that all over the web, not just on DU. Or at least those parts of the web where Certain Kinds of People hang out:
"Well, no, that word doesn't mean what you're saying. See, right here in the dictionary..."
"DICTIONARY!!! OMG!!! Dictionaries are a tool of the Materialist-Fascist Conspiracy! Words can mean whatever I want them to mean!"
I hope none of these idiots ever run a restaurant. I'd probably order a cheeseburger and get a plate of asparagus. And be told it's the New Redefined Cheeseburger. And that I will eat it and like it.
