1. I see it as a good thing...

lots of folks standing around waiting for a church to intentionally blow smoke.

2. The stalking heads are already beginning their pro-pope offensive in the US

the cable stations have already been given access to bishops and cardinals, who paint the church in an unfailing, infallible, and holy light, explaining the Rat's abdication as a godly act.

heh. Right.

5. I must have gotten sick of the constant media coverage the last time around.

I remember posting something about Popeapalooza and pissing off some DUers.

Of course then we also had to deal with the wailing and gnashing of teeth when whatshisname died.

6. Pope John Paul George and Ringo the Second

Highly overrated I thought. Everyone was so gaga over him, but you have to remember he gave Benny the Rat his job at the Inquisit... Oh sorry Office for the Congreagation of the Faith (If I remember the name correctly).

4. Reading Pharyngula

PZ makes a good point. Getting rid of one pope is useless, they just replace them with another copy.

7. I don't know why

Everyone above the level of parish priest is corrupt beyond belief and living in the 14th century.

They'll find an equivalently backward asshole to lead the hierarchy. They usually do.

8. A-a-a-nd...3 more months of hearing the St. Malachy BS...

i.e., the Papal prophecies of St. Malachy.

According to him, Benedict is the penultimate Pope. The next one, Petrus Romanus (Peter The Roman) will be the last Pope.

There is a suitably apocalyptic ending - Petrus Romanus will leave Rome with the city in flames, on his way out of the Vatican stepping over the dead bodies of his Cardinals.

Of course, this all depends on whether or not you count the Anti-Popes as real popes or...Jebus! Why am I wasting time on this nonsense? Not even the Catholics believe this stuff...well, most of them don't anyway. Here...

11. That doesn't sound too terrible actually

The Last Pope? Finally? I can't wait! I suppose it means the end of the Catholic Church then?

If the "world-ending" part is anything like the 2012 version, totally fine with that.

10. The papal prophesies have this one as the last.

This is the one time I am rooting for Catholicism to be right.
