Atheist Census

This isn't exactly scientific, but I suspect if they get decent participation it might show up on someone's radar.

Anyways, if you are interested:

http://www.atheistcensus.com/

Here an ecept from their FAQ:
http://www.atheistcensus.com/faq

1. What is Atheist Census?

Atheist Census is a project to count and collect demographic information on the world’s atheists.

2. What are the objectives of Atheist Census?

Atheist Census aims to build a picture of the world’s atheists – where they are, their genders and ages, their education and religious (if any) background – and use that information to demonstrate the presence and importance of atheists in societies around the world.

3. Who is behind Atheist Census?

Atheist Census is a project of Atheist Alliance International (AAI), a global alliance of atheist/freethought groups and individuals. AAI’s website is www.atheistalliance.org.

4. What will the information be used for?

Aggregated to the country level, the information collected by Atheist Census is freely available through the Atheist Census website so that atheists can demonstrate their presence in their own countries. AAI would be pleased to discuss other uses of the information with like-minded groups or individuals.

1. Did you go through the process?

I don't really like to give my email address, but wonder what else they ask? Anything personal?

2. I did it.

There were only those initial questions on the main link, the email, and email validation. No additional personal questions.

6. Yes I did.

It asked various questions such as education level, sex--that sort of demographic info. They encrypt everything and don't sell it (per their policy). I figure it is true because I suspect in some countries signing in could be a little problematic if someone found out.

7. Wow, only 26% of participants are female.

That was a surprise to me, but I don't know why....I have met very few women who admit to being atheists or other non-religious categories. But then again, I meet few people who admit it.

I am also in a minority for my age....they didn't even have the % listed for my age bracket. I guess that is because not so many older people would be online and on that site....because I find that as people get older, they get more skeptical. At least, the ones who don't have too much guilt.
