And that’s where my troubles began.
I wrote, to the dismay of many critics, “This is a religious country. Part of claiming your citizenship is claiming a belief in God, even if you are not Christian. We’ve got the Creator in our Declaration of Independence. We’ve got “In God we Trust on our coins. We’ve got “One nation under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance. And we say prayers in the Senate and the House of Representatives to God.” I ended by saying. “An atheist could never get elected dogcatcher much less President.”
To represent my true beliefs, I should have begun that last paragraph with the word, unfortunately. I do not believe that religion should play any role in politics. But that is not the world we live in.

Ummm, not for nothin but evangelical protestants were more inclined to vote repub since at least the late 70s when I started noticing stuff (and my church was telling us to)...And I doubt the last debate got Romeny more evangelicals - they were either already there or, like my brother, so hard core fundamentalist something else that they will never consider a culty mormon for president. (I admit I was a little surprised to hear my brother say that - i figured he'd go Romeny just becasue...I think he reason for not voting Rmoney is silly but I'm not about to try and change his mind. He still won't vote for Obama but he never would have so at least that's one less for Rmoney.)
edit to add - I don't think it was right for a few atheists to hope for her fiery death in a car crash and then eternity in her hell. She apparently received some emails like that. That is some bullshit. But I have to wonder how many rational, politely worded disagreeing emails she received compared to those? And why did she only highlight the really over the top ones? Agenda Schmagenda.
