(6,409 posts)The crows in my neighborhood sometimes stole small tools that were bright and shiny, but they dropped them when they discovered they were no good to eat. They never did learn to use them correctly.

(11,843 posts)and could be completed in any order. I'm not saying the bird isn't smart but it really isn't a problem with one solution out of 8! or 40,320 possibilities, which the audio suggests. None of the steps, if attempted out of order precluded the successful completion of the overall task.

(11,012 posts)Not gonna argue with your take on the order of operations... That was not the purpose of me posting that video. You doubted that wild crows would use tools. I think both videos prove that the can and do use tools. There are other vids out there that show crows using cars to crack nuts and such, but you can look them up on YouTube if you want to see them.

I merely pointed out that the claims of the complexity of an "8 step specific order" task are overstated.
