quote from a "Big 'Ol Boy" from the south on some network comedy/news/human interest show in the 80's I'll guess. I've used it many times with my own substitutions

15. One thing people tend to ignore about kudzu
|
is that the root is an edible and reasonably nutritious foodstuff. We might just get desperate enough to start eating it in the not too distant future as warming continues and kudzu is the only crop that won't fail.
Nothing but harvesting every year will kill that stuff. |

We've just had more economical and tastier sources for what it offers. That might be ending.

I have an acquaintence whose wife went on one of those adult adventure travels there...she was quite ecstatic in telling me about it. He wasn't up to the trip. I've been looking into a few 50+ trips/treks

Although I could never swing Peru time-wise or money-wise. Well, until I win the lottery.

Last edited Sun Oct 7, 2012, 09:17 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) and that is a big option for cheap travel, foreign studies programs intersessions. I've done it many times, of course you become more of a chaperon but thats okay its fun.
This is just an example. Adults can audit the class. http://www.mayaexploration.org/study_midland_may13.php |

18. Sounds like a good idea, and wonderful too.
|
But it is out of my price range just the same. Does not include travel to Peru, travel insurance, lunch and dinner, and tips....and that is not a small amount. But what fun it would be! I will consider this one day in the future as a good option for travel programs. I would have never thought of this.

26. If not now - when?
|
I hope you consider it seriously. I was there when I was not quite 30 - a good while ago
I went up by switchback roads on the bus, and it scared me so bad I walked down through the jungle. The Urumbamba river flows there, and the train ride to Cusco is spectacular as well. GO! |

in the category of places that can not be over-hyped. No matter how cool someone tells you it is when you get there you mind will be blown.

Had a great time, there are hot springs down along the river. Ate strawberries from the terraces, and there are fields or orchads up on top, we walked the trail for 5 days coming in the second time.

Reminds me a book I got from my father which contains most of Rome's ruins. They are shown as now and then a transparent overlay for each page shows each of them as built in ancient times.
