Christian Group Shows Up To Chicago Gay Pride Holding Apologetic Signs

This is an amazing photo that captured the moment a gay man hugged a member of a Christian group, that came to Gay Pride to apologize for the way the church has treated homosexuals. It’s nice to see people of faith have common sense enough to know that hate and prejudice is wrong. A step in the right direction towards equality and something everyone should learn from. THIS is the kind of compassion that religion teaches, but far too often doesn’t follow. Well done.

Since seeing this photo, a friend of mine had introduced me to more of the story. A man, by the name of Nathan, is the one you see above hugging the gay guy in his underwear, or Tristan rather. Well, Nathan wrote a blog about this day and this moment and what his and his fellow church-goers had done. Here is what he had to say:

I hugged a man in his underwear. I think Jesus would have too.

6. This is what I've talked about before.

These people know they need to make their voices heard, rather than whining about how the right-wing jackasses get all the media time.

7. All well and good, except that

these people cannot apologize for all Christians if (as some people here harp on almost every day) they cannot be held to blame for the behavior of all Christians. Apologies are nice, for a start, but I'll wait to see them denouncing their fellow Christians bigotry and discrimination at every turn, and using their (supposedly) far superior numbers at the voting booth to keep religious right homophobes out of public office. Right now, everyone who matters in the Republican party is against gay rights, and they didn't get where they are by accident, or overnight.

9. the bigots were said here and everywhere else to speak

for all Christians and religious. Go on any thread. Now when someone turns out to do what Jesus actually taught its not enough? So you can't win if you believe. You are responsible as everyone else if you believe and if you do the right thing it will never be enough. amazing.

8. One quibble here

Technically, it should be "apology signs" rather than "apologetic signs". Apologetics is completely different from apologies.

Beyond that, good for them! This needs to happen more, even if only so members of the more rabid christian denominations see that loving tolerance and faith are possible at the same time.

11. Yeah, I noticed that too.

Just wasn't gonna let sloppy reporting get in the way of something good.

12. 'apologetic' is nearly always used as an adjective; 'apologetics' is the noun you're refering to

so, when they want to describe the sign, they call it 'apologetic'. I've never seen the noun used in the singular in modern speech. Yes, in English, you can use nouns to stand in as adjectives, so they could have say "apology signs", but it can be awkward - like "Democrat Party", for instance.
