Ryan says Obama's policies threaten 'Judeo-Christian' values
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57544910/ryan-says-obamas-policies-threaten-judeo-christian-values/
By REBECCA KAPLAN / CBS NEWS/ November 4, 2012, 11:04 PM DENVER In a last-minute call to rally religious conservatives to vote, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said Sunday night that President Obama is taking the country down a path that threatens the "Judeo-Christian" values upon which the country was founded. "It's a dangerous path, it's a path that grows government, restricts freedom and liberty, and compromises those values, those Judeo-Christian, Western civilization values that made us such a great and exceptional nation in the first place," Ryan said during an unpublicized teletown hall with members of the Faith & Freedom Coalition. "He was talking about issues like religious liberty and Obamacare -- topics he has mentioned frequently during the campaign," said Ryan campaign spokesman Michael Steel. Although Ryan does not often talk about America's past in religious terms, GOP nominee Mitt Romney said in a commencement address to Liberty University earlier this year that Judeo-Christian values are "central to America's rise to global leadership." more at link

3. One: this country was NOT founded on Judeo-Christian ANYTHING. The founders were quite....
|
...clear about their feelings about religion.
Two: Christ said: That which you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me. That does not mean "let's cancel our society's safety net... here, have a voucher." |

4. Agree and agree. This is just political pandering on his part.
|
IMHO, he uses his catholicism for political gain only.

8. How can you pretend to know what someone else's true motivations are?
|
That strikes me as highly presumptuous and arrogant.

9. I'm sorry I don't think the poster is "...pretend to know what someone else's true motivations are..

Last edited Mon Nov 5, 2012, 01:45 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) The poster quite clearly began their comment with "IMHO", which is "In My Humble Opinion."
The poster was just offering an OPINION. ON EDIT: It is a valid assumption that this would/could be political pandering on Ryan's part. Everything he does is political pandering. Why should his religion be any different? |

10. Because said poster has scornfully dismissed other people's OPINIONS.
|
I am just wondering about their consistency. Some people are A-OK with having blatant double standards, and if that's the case, I think others should be informed about that lest they get roped into a discussion with someone who is less than honest.
Now as to the topic at hand - all politicians pander. They have to, in order to get elected. Have you considered the possibility that President Obama is pandering when he speaks religious language, too? Or do you think he's sincere? |

11. Sounds like you have issues with said poster.
|
As for President Obama, yes, for the most part, I do think he is sincere. For the most part his actions tell me he is a caring person, and one that seems to allow his Christian faith to guide him.
As for Ryan, I detect no such thing. But just my opinion. |

12. So if you don't think someone acts like a caring person,
|
then they must not be a Christian?

14. So healthcare is against 'Judeo-Christian values'?
|
I never heard that.
But bearing false witness against your neighbour, as the Right constantly did about Obama, is certainly against 'Judeo-Christian values', as presumably the Ten Commandments reflect these if anything does. In any case, the 'Judeo' part is certainly cynical; the far Right generally have little time for Jews, except when it helps the rhetoric. Oh well, at least Romney 'n Ryan lost! |

15. Ryan is a total hypocrite. He wouldn't know a Judeo-Christian value if
|
it sat on his face.
Glad we will be seeing less of him. Sorry that we will be subjected to him at all in the future. Best word I know of to describe his is punk. |
