Ignorance alive and well in Indiana: Catholics outraged that they had to share a public space with n

http://www.wthr.com/story/19614139/pagan-pride-festival-upsets

On the fourth Saturday of September every year, Broad Ripple Park becomes home to Pagan Pride Day. But last Saturday, Broad Ripple Park was also home to the Catholic Youth Organization fall cross country meet.

The meet for the Catholic Youth Organization involved hundreds of kids and parents. It turns out the festival rented the field for the day and the CYO participants had to run around the festival.

Some CYO parents were upset to see the festival going on. David Dessauer thought he would have a relaxing morning watching his children compete.

"They have got a right to it someplace else and I have got a right to be outraged about it and I'm gonna tell anybody and everybody that I'm outraged by this," he said.

Tom Jones is a pagan and organizer for Pagan Pride Day.

"We have been through the special use committee for the Indy Parks. We do this by the book legally every year for the past 14 years," said Jones.

Notice how the Pagans tried to speak intelligently, calmly and rationally while the xtians just went into a rage about how silly the other religion was.

So typical

and it says the Catholics attending were ok with sharing the space. The comments said David Dessauer was not even there and did not speak for CYO.

12. Dessauer said he was there

He said, in the video, he turned up and saw the pagans there. The article says "Dessauer thought he would have a relaxing morning watching his children compete". One person in the comments claims he was not there, and there's no indication that she was to be able to make that claim.

The video and article also has Jones saying some Catholics were 'intentionally rude'. The comments say the Catholic organisers were fine; it was some of the CYO parents and children that were rowdy and verbally abusive.

I liked this comment:

The offended parent is a former Republican State Representative who alligned himself with the tea party. We were classmates in Catholic school. We sure didn't learn the same things.

while Dessauer doesn't realize he looks just as silly, if not sillier since he was the one blowing a fit, to people who are outside his religion.

I don't know what will inject these short sighted blowhards with a little humility. I suspect nothing will since it was abundantly clear the Pagan Pride people were there every year and his bunch were the newcomers.

This is when a referee needs to step in most of the time.

...outside of David Dessauer's restaurant. Maybe invite Dar Williams to provide some insights into the proper behavior for The Christians and The Pagans:

I know a lot pagans. They're really good for the community. They know a lot about plants. They're excellent gardeners. They support the library. Think I want to get me some of those pagans.

Sorry to ruin your narrative.

Oh, and your comment, "Notice how the Pagans tried to speak intelligently, calmly and rationally while the xtians just went into a rage about how silly the other religion was" is as bogus as your headline.

At least to me.

"They have got a right to it someplace else and I have got a right to be outraged about it and I'm gonna tell anybody and everybody that I'm outraged by this," he said.

Jones says it comes down to space...For Dessauer, it is about something else.

Sounds pretty angry if you ask me.

of good, reasonable people. Apparently there was really not much of a controversy at all.

"apparently, the CYO was supposed to be done by the time IPPD started, but they were still finishing up when IPPD was beginning to set up for the day."

(see comments as well)

Why the broad brush stereotyping? Do you really think all Xtians are unable to speak intelligently, calmly and rationally and Pagans don't speak of the silliness of those not like them?
