Holy Cross Hospital agrees to settle in pension case

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-holy-cross-settlement-0314-biz-20170313-story.html

Chicago's Holy Cross Hospital has agreed to pay millions of dollars to settle a lawsuit over whether it should have had to follow a federal law designed to protect employee pensions despite its religious affiliation.

A number of religiously affiliated hospitals, however, say they shouldn't have to follow that law because their plans are technically "church plans," and church plans are exempt from that federal law. Hospitals have argued that the exemption is important in order to limit government intrusion into church activities.
