(82,333 posts)Oh, you mean like the fact that not every religious person is a violent maniac?
Astounding. Who could have guessed? But keep worshipping...

Capisce?
Oh wait, you can't answer.

(45,851 posts)Which even here in the US can be every few moments.
From what I've run into online there are quite a few Muslims who can't get two sentences out without mentioning Allah, Mohamed (PBUH) or both. Often very, very polite and self effacing but their culture seems to require a great deal of public religious expression.

(82,333 posts)Most of the prosecutions I've read about are for blasphemy, atheism being only one of dozens of ways to commit blasphemy.
The reportage tends to be on the sensationalist side but I'm skeptical that if one simply has no belief, he or she will be prosecuted or forced to go to a mosque at flogpoint.
Those states that hold show trials for blasphemers also are the most authoritarian states on the planet, which may be a greater incentive to persecute nonconformists than Islamic beliefs.
So, when you say "open", it strikes my ear more as a free speech issue rather than as a targeted persecution of atheists.

(45,851 posts)Legally I'm free to say what I want here in the USA, culturally not so much without paying a substantial social price.
I doubt it's any different in predominantly Muslim cultures.

(23,339 posts)On Fri Jun 10, 2016, 05:35 AM an alert was sent on the following post:
I do know what TROLL is.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1218&pid=230671
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
What a "clever" way of calling someone a troll. Rude, insulting, and inappropriate. Rug should answer the question (he doesn't like talking about gender/sexuality politics when it comes to his religion which is highly conservative on those topics) instead of calling someone a troll.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jun 10, 2016, 05:45 AM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Considering the tone of the post to which he is responding, and the tone of this alert, this is just tit for tat and really not necessary. Be civil to each other in the thread and don't use a jury to get back at someone.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: A bit of snark, but seems to be in response to a "clever" way of calling someone ignorant. Not worth a hide.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation:
rude
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: He didn't call you a troll anymore than you called him a homophobe in the post he's replying to.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Obvious attempt to call someone a troll.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Don't call people trolls. Simple.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
