OP
I don't think they are hiding their bigotry behind their religion, as the writer asserts.

I believe that in their view, their religion endorses and requires the bigotry. It's a closed circuit. It's in the text. The Bible tells them so.

Their bigotry is part and parcel of their religion. Look at the excuses made for pope Frank's bigotry: he can't help it, it's part of the religion, etc. Well there goes the excuse that it's religion being "used" to justify the bigotry.

The Bill can be examined here, though I forewarn you that it did induce nausea when I skimmed over it. Basically, it would make discrimination against LGBT people acceptable under the guise of religion. Something that we all know Jesus would have fully endorsed-NOT! It is nothing more than a feeble and transparent backlash against the Civil Rights that LGBT people have gained since the Supreme Court made its ruling on same-sex marriage. It is a slippery and totally sneaky way for conservatives to maintain their view that they are entitled to be jerks to people. Meanwhile, themajority of American society believe that LGBT people should not face discrimination in jobs, public accommodations, and housing. It is a stark contrast to the trickery of a few backwards Republicans, who feel it is their role to maintain their privilege and to keep minorities and women down.
Senator Kirk is a powerhouse legislator.
