"Parent outraged over possible pentagram symbol on Mid-South bus"

At least one Mid-South parent is concerned about what she says is a satanic symbol on a school bus.

Robyn Wilkins snapped a photo when she noticed the shape of an upside down, five-pointed star outlined in the brake lights of a school bus that was stopped in Cordova.

...
She says Christians should be outraged that a symbol that looks like a pentagram would be allowed in the design of a vehicle used to transport children to public schools.
...
Neither Durham School Services nor the school district would answer any questions about the bus' brake lights.

Presumably, School Services and the school district are too busy banging their heads on the desk in frustration at the idiocy of parents and local TV reporters.

Fred Clark comments:

But as depressing as this “news” segment is for what it tells us about the current state of local journalism, this whole spectacle is even more depressing for what it tells us about the current state of Christianity in America.

The hallmark of white evangelical discipleship in the 21st century is feigned outrage. They’ll know we are Christians by our indignant pretense.

Evangelicalism in America takes its cue from the Catholic rite of baptism: “Do you renounce Satan and all his works?” We do. We just no longer have any idea what all Satan’s works might look like. So we make stuff up and then renounce that.
...
So you settle for a shortcut. If you can’t raise the bridge, lower the river. If you can’t set yourself apart by acting more like Jesus, you can set yourself apart by pretending that everybody else is acting more like Satan. All those other people who seem just like you might be secretly evil. They’re not disciples of Jesus, like you are, so they must be disciples of Satan. And even though they look and act and live just like you do, there must be secret, coded signs that reveal their true evil agenda of evilness. They must actually be Satanists who kill babies so that they can have lots of dirty sex, and who have lots of dirty sex so that they can kill babies.

If the position offends you so much, then go out with your crazy church people and rotate the brake light prisms so the star has a point going upward.

The worst people in the world are the busybodies who go around looking for things to be outraged about.

I'm sure no one would object to little LED crosses on the back of the buses, not only would the kids be protected from vehicles hitting from behind but vampires too would stay well clear.

You've never heard of vampires attacking someone wearing a cross so ipso facto crosses protect from vampires. What the hell good, if you'll pardon the expression, does a pentagram do?

That's horrible! We have to stop those five-pointed stars wherever they show up!

I just saw a lot more! The American flag has 50 of them!! Let's get those Satanic stars off the flag!!!

... indications of satanic inclinations or sympathies ?

Wow, if so, I guess I should rethink my chosen affiliations.
