(51,907 posts)Toys for the world are made by kids
And not by elves at all!
We work them night and day
For very little pay. And tiny little hands
Make all our fav'rite brands
That fill up the shelves in every shopping mall.
Toys for the world that Santa brings
So our own kids can play
What's underneath your tree
Is our economy.
The little girls and boys
Who make our children's toys
Are not getting squat from us on Christmas Day!
They're not getting squat from us on Christmas Day!
O Come Ye Investors
O come, ye investors, captains of our commerce,
Come build your factories in Bangladesh
Come for the people, peaceful and compliant
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them because we can!
Child, in our sweatshops, make designer dresses,
So we get richer from your twelve-hour days!
Who would not hire you for ten cents an hour?
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them because we can!
See how consumers, blinded by low prices,
Leaving their consciences, come here to buy.
Into our pockets they will pour their dollars.
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them
O come let us exploit them because we can!
Rest Easy Wealthy Gentlemen
Rest easy, wealthy gentlemen,
Let nothing make us sigh.
We give our workers tiny crumbs
So we can keep the pie.
We pay off politicians
So they bear our needs in mind
As they line up to kiss our fat behinds. If they're inclined,
Oh, they line up to kiss our fat behinds!
Don't worry, wealthy gentlemen,
Let nothing make us twitch.
This new global economy's
Designed to keep us rich.
We ply our trade in many lands
Let all their leaders come
To bend down and kiss us on the bum. There's a good chum.
Just bend down and kiss us on the bum!

(40,416 posts)A more beautiful anthem I have never heard.
Thank you for this. I had to listen to it more than once.
Chanticleer are one of the best. A Capella is wonderful.
Just wow!
(Jaw drops.)
The lyrics:
In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.
Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him
Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away
When He comes to reign:
In the bleak mid-winter
A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty,
Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, whom cherubim
Worship night and day,
A breastful of milk,
And a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels
Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel
Which adore.
Angels and archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged the air -
But only His mother
In her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.
What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man
I would do my part;
Yet what I can, I give Him -
Give my heart.
I am a militant atheist. But sometimes culture reaches across divides. Music can do that like nothing other.
As Duke Ellington said: If the music sounds good, it IS good.
Wow!

(40,416 posts)Albeit a secular one.
The King's Singers, at their best.
Kudos to you, my friend, during the holidays.
Lyrics:
You are the new day
You are the new day
I will love you more than me
And more than yesterday
If you can but prove to me
You are the new day
Send the sun in time for dawn
Let the birds all hail the morning
Love of life will urge me say
You are the new day
When I lay me down at night
Knowing we must pay
Thoughts occur that this night might
Stay yesterday
Thoughts that we as humans small
Could slow worlds and end it all
Lie around me where they fall
Before the new day
One more day when time is running out
For everyone
Like a breath I knew would come I reach for
The new day
Hope is my philosophy
Just needs days in which to be
Love of life means hope for me
Borne on a new day
You are the new day
My regards.

O Little Town of Hackensack
O little town of Hackensack,
How still we hear thee snore;
The snow-deckd streets that reindeer feets
Will soon be prancing ore
Thy winsome children wondring if
Old Santa Claus will show;
They need not fear; methinks I hear
His endless ho, ho, ho.
O little town of Hackensack,
How yet we see thee lie;
St. Nick hath gone, by now hes on
His way to Tenafly.
Then gifts galore to Peapack and
Secaucus will he bring;
He toucheth down in evry town
He doeth now his thing.
O little town of Hackensack,
At last the dawn doth glow;
The sky is clear, no longer hear
We Santas ho ho ho.
Wake up! tis time to check out all
The things you got, and then
To drink thy fill and eat until
Youre back to sleep again.

Good King Kong Looked Out
Good King Kong looked out on his feet
And he saw that they were large.
Ho, ho, he said, we go, he said,
To make some tracks in the snow,
Forsooth our feet are very large.
Squinch, squinch, squinch.
Good King Kong looked out on his nose
And he saw that it was flat.
Oh, no, he said, when we blow, he said,
The pitch must not be too low,
The royal nose must not be flat.
Honk, honk, honk.
Good King Kong looked out on his ears
And his ears he could not see.
Oh, dear, he said, its clear, he said,
We must see if we can hear,
Because our ears we cannot see.
Hear, hear, hear.
Good King Kong looked up in the sky
And he saw St. Nicks red sleigh;
Ho, ho, he said, whaddya know, he said,
Will you look at that old guy go, he said,
Uh, oh, whoa, past us please do not go.
Yell yells, he said, Ring the bells, he said,
Though a couple dont work very well,
Lets welcome St. Nick and his sleigh.
Ding, dong, clunk.

Christmas Materials
Three selections for Christmas...
1 Jim Gaerhart - Clarence The Geoduck (5:53)
This is a holiday promotional 45, both in English and Japanese for the Russell Company - home of the Russell 2000 Index, and obviously made long before the company had billions of bucks. I love it.
2 Tacoma Women's Choir - Ronnie Gave To Me (3:25)
A parody of 12 Days of Christmas, and by the Tacoma (Washington) Women's Choir - recorded at a concert.
3 Al Kelly & Del Sharbutt - An Exclusive Interview With Santa (5:31)
RCA Promo (HO7H-0933) distributed to stations.
And... welcome to your ears to a CD I produced this year, "Previously Unreleased" - featuring Bryan Bowers, Jim Page and Evan Purcell. Recorded at ContactCreate studio in Snohomish county (Washington) Saturday, December 1. A live from the Northwest gift filled with music, chatter, holiday stories, questionable jokes, and good spirits. The best of all the holidays and a happy new year to each of you listening.

MSR 265: 1978 Christmas Album
Up here in Canada, Songpoem albums are hard to come by. Either Canadians never took up the offer to 'become a star' as often as Americans did, or they just had relatives in the US who sent them copies. So whenever I find one, it's a momentous occasion.
Especially when the used record stores have no idea what they are and charge $1 for 'em!
Here's the tracklist for 13 Christmas-themed ditties (and a couple that are not) for your holiday pleasure:
MP3:
01 The Birthday Of Jesus Christ (Sione Lavemai Finau) (2:31)
02 Welcome The Lord (Sione Lavemai Finau) (3:21)
03 Merry Christmas From Tonga, The Friendly Island (Sione Lavemai Finau) (2:30)

05 Remember God (Joan Tomaini) (2:18)
06 A Prayer Of Thanks To God (Josephine Calcagno) (2:28)

After Christmas Radio Spots & Songs (with an eye on the New Year)
"Is the tree down yet? Are the decorations packed away? ..." - Henry Fonda
Those are the first words spoken on Track 1 and it sets the tone for this day after Christmas. Most people are so finished with Christmas by December 26 that they begin looking forward to the next holiday (and despite some store displays already set, it's NOT Valentine's Day).
Compiled for your listening pleasure today are some after-Christmas radio spots that remind you that Christmas might be over but not forgotten, several celebrity New Year's greetings, and a majority of fun New Year's songs that will hopefully brighten this dead week inbetween holiday bashes and hangovers.
New Year's blues, comedy, novelty, blues, even disco are all represented here. You'll find something in this collection that will put a smile on your Christmas weary face.
