I thought about you today Pinto

You had an op back a while ago.. asking if people who join faith bodies were seeking community.. or something to that effect.. or maybe it was a post in another op.. anyway, it was a very insightful question I thought.

Today I attended a funeral of an older friend..packed to the gills with people.. Many times you not see large groups of people at an older persons funeral, because they outlived so many people.

But the church was packed.. and as I sat there.. missing this old friend.. I was surrounded by others missing him also.. half of them I did not know.. but we were a community in our grief.. and we moved as one, and cried as one..

We all shared this moment of oneness.. and I thought of you and and that wonderful question...

I remember the OP. Yeah it was about community. I've thought about it since then as well - how in different situations we find community. And how it can take so many different expressions. And how individual it can be. Thanks ~ pinto

Again Peacetrain, sorry for your loss.

you asked has had me rethinking so many things through the aspect of seeking community.. For the good and the bad.. today that sense of community was a very good thing for all of us. I really wanted to thank your original post, it was something everyone knows on the surface, but most of us do not think of the depth of what seeking community can mean..

And so wonderful of you to have thought of pinto at this time.

Even though I am not religious, I have found that certain religiously based ceremonies are profoundly uniting and moving. This is particularly true of marriages and funerals for me.

It was a poignant and touching ceremony.. Definitely felt the pain of those around us as well as our own.. A passage shared by us all..

Whether rejoicing or grieving gives comfort and support .
Who could fault that.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

I had a somewhat better experience yesterday, but similar community 'moment'. I went to see the Seattle Women's Choir at St. Mark's Cathedral. It was a great show, highly recommend.

(But not different from that same sort of 'moment' in any other venue, as people gather together)
