Pope Francis Greets Queen Elizabeth II At The Vatican

AP DANIELA PETROFF

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Queen Elizabeth II — bearing a basket of honey, whiskey and other goodies from the royal estates — paid a visit to Pope France at the Vatican on Thursday. The pontiff returned the courtesy with a gift for Prince George, Elizabeth's great-grandson.

The Argentine-born pope presented the queen with a stone orb topped with a sharp cross, saying it's for "el ninetto" — a term of endearment for little child. Elizabeth said George "will be thrilled by that — when he's a little older."

Elizabeth's basket of honey, whiskey, etc., or Barack's gift of seeds from the White House garden, in a handmade box?

gift too. (I drink! And I pretty much have a black thumb!)

Though, if I had a gardener who could actually do something with those seeds, I think the President's gift is pretty neato!

They might sprout on their own in the stacks.

to enjoy the Queen's gift with his meals. (Which means the guests at Santa Marta's will also get to enjoy them. ) I doubt he has a lot of time for gardening--no more than the President does.

I wonder what will become of the seeds, and who will drink the whiskey?

But what I really wonder about is what these leaders think of the Pope.

"Obama offered his first: a seed box, encased in American leather, and built of wood recovered from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Archdiocese of Baltimore – the first cathedral constructed in the United States, the cornerstone of which was laid by John Carroll – a Jesuit priest and the first Catholic bishop and Archbishop in the United States; given in honor of the opening of the Pontifical Gardens of the Apostolic Palace in Castel Gandolfo to the public, the box contained seeds from fruits and vegetables of the White House garden, and represent a gift of seeds to be made in the name of the Holy Father to charity, the yield of which is hoped to be several tons of fresh produce. “This gift,” reads an official statement from the White House, “honors the commitment of Your Holiness to sow the seeds of global peace for future generations.”"

If I got something like that from the President, I'd be fucking stoked.
