VATICAN CITY Two white doves that were released by children standing alongside Pope Francis as a peace gesture have been attacked by other birds.
As tens of thousands of people watched in St. Peters Square on Sunday, a seagull and a large black crow swept down on the doves right after they were set free from an open window of the Apostolic Palace.

Must-see photos of the week
A look at some of our favorite images of the week.
One dove lost some feathers as it broke free from the gull. But the crow pecked repeatedly at the other dove.
It was not clear what happened to the doves as they flew off.

Perhaps the seagulls mistook them for PR doves and attacked them for having no shame.

It's been a hard winter.

(11,573 posts)4. Gulls in general, and all the corvids,
are aggressive, opportunistic predators with the nasty habit of preying on other birds' eggs and young.
This incident illustrates exactly why domestically raised birds and butterflies should NOT be released at ceremonies, no matter how pretty it looks.

Are you talking about the birds or the bishops?
rug
(82,333 posts)7. I think it has to do with the OP.

Is that some kind of vague personal attack?

(19,705 posts)9. Just another of your thinly veiled personal attacks.
