Any other competition shooter out there?

I shoot sporter air rifle and want to branch out into high-power and rimfire.

clubs in your area? If so I would recomend that you visit them and watch a match or six. By observing you can learn a lot about how the holds are different. Also you can ask questions of the shooters and gain more knowledge. Also volunteering to work the target pits will give you a hand up.

They shoot the Garand match every summer, and a Vintage rifle shoot for all military rifles. Their first shoot of the year is next weekend.

I bit the bullet (pun intended) and joined the Crazies, since it's a condition of membership. I just tell myself the money went for youth programs, not LaPierre's scotch fund...

The university where I work supposedly has an air rifle/rimfire club. I need to confirm that and find out if staff is allowed to join. Most campus clubs do allow staff/faculty members.

Have you been? It's one of my dreams.

The first thing that struck me is the parking lot. Walk around a little and you see license plates from more than 40 states, probably all but Hawaii.

I went mostly to buy some supplies from Commercial Row vendors, and to visit the CMP store. But I wandered out to the firing line to watch a little.

The match moves to the same slow, safe, well-ordered cadence as a match anywhere, just more shooters. The targets sit above the top of the berm. Any "hits" just pass through the paper and wind up in Lake Erie (which has a big area closed to boaters during the matches). The range is large enough for 1000 yard matches, but the match I saw was probably 200 yards. It's a huge field, and there's no relief from the weather. I don't know how much fun it is when it's 100 degrees and humid, or 60 degrees, rainy, and windy.

For spectators, a match is a little less exciting than watching golf, so I went back to shopping, picked up some powder, projectiles, and a pulled-pork sandwich. Not a bad place to visit, and it's an easy drive from S.E. Mich.

He's got an indoor "redneck" range for 12ga and 22 matches. Max distance is 23 yards.



They just started a timed pistol shoot about an hour from me down toward Bristol that I'd like to go watch. A friend of mine shoots 3 gun down in NC and he's invited me to come down a shoot but I wouldn't want to embarrass myself that way. LOL
They do a couple of cowboys shoots on the east and north county bordering mine but I've never been to either.

I don't want to ruin it by making it competitive. I do focus on what I do and improve upon myself.
