Dead Island issue... (yeah, I'm behind the times)

I finally bought Dead Island from Steam. (PC) It was on sale and couldn't pass it up. However, the movement and control is horrible. At first I thought it was the settings so I fiddled with those for a while, but to no avail, the movement is awful.

So I thought, well maybe it's my computer, so I asked a friend about his copy that he plays on his XBox and it has the same damn issue. (I had a similar problem with another game "Homefront")

Basically, as best as I can describe the problem is this: if I move my mouse even just a little bit, my character swings around wildly. other times, if I ever so slightly move my mouse, I will find myself looking straight up or straight down.

it is truly a horrible control issue.

Anyway, anyone else have this problem?

1. I poked around a bit and it looks like a lot of people have the same complaint

Seems a lot of them find using an Xbox/PS3 controller improves the control a lot... Have you tried using a controller with the PC?

3. Apparently you can edit the sensitivity

in an XML.

I've navigated to "My Documents\DeadIsland\out\Data\Skills" (I didn't do steps 1 to 3 from the post), and found the file "default_levels.xml" readily available. Right click, open with notepad.

Messed around with the settings and here's what I've found:

<prop n="LookVertSpeed_Mouse" v="0.25"/> //higher number means higher sensitivity in-game. combat, running etc
<prop n="LookHorzSpeed_Mouse" v="0.25"/> //higher number means higher sensitivity in-game. combat, running etc

I guess you'll just have to tinker with the settings.

4. I have it for the PS3, and I have not had that issue.

I love the game and I'm sorry the Steam version is quirky.
