Giants' Cain limits A's to finally get 2nd win of season

Oakland's Stephen Vogt made a good point after the Giants beat Jason Hammel and the A's 5-2 Wednesday night.

"They've seen him a lot," Vogt said. "He's new to us but not new to them."

Hammel, the other pitcher acquired from the Cubs in Saturday's Jeff Samardzija deal, lasted five innings and 99 pitches and worked out of the stretch much of the night because the Giants pulled their bats out of hibernation and outhit the A's 10-5, getting Matt Cain a win. Finally.

Cain surrendered two runs in six innings for his first win since May 15 and second win of the year.

"That's definitely not how you want to go into the (All-Star) break, with just two wins, with the team playing as well as we did," said Cain, who has had winnable starts result in losses or no-decisions. "I definitely want to participate more to help out. I want to do it in the second half."

Note: Dodgers lost two games, and the Giants won, and are now back in first place again in the National League West. Giants are: 50/41
