Uh huh. 'Elway said Broncos gave Tebow a choice'

Broncos executive vice president John Elway said Thursday that the Broncos kept Tebow informed of trade possibilities and let the quarterback have a say in where he ended up.

Denver ultimately traded Tebow to the New York Jets after weighing offers from the Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tebow’s hometown team.

Elway, in an interview Thurdsay on 102.3 ESPN radio in Denver, said Jacksonville’s offer was actually worth slightly more than the offer from the Jets. Jacksonville’s draft slot is 10 places higher than the Jets in each round.

“There was more from Jacksonville, but I think that we looked at it and it was close enough, and we were in contact with Tim throughout the day, and talked to him,” Elway said. “He knew what was going on the whole time. The reports that he was not involved are not accurate.”

Tebow, in a conference call with New York reporters late Wednesday night, said the Broncos held “all the power.”

1. I knew Elway was full of shit...

But I didn't think that comprised 99% of his total being.

2. Why the hell would Tebow not prefer to go to Jacksonville? They love him in Florida.

3. A bigger missionary challenge in New York?

Certainly more people who need saving.

10. For John Elway so hated his only misbegotten son

he spent two and a half million dollars to send him into a hell where his career will most likely perish and not have everlasting life.

12. Compared to what the New York media will do him

his crucifixion in Denver will feel downright heavenly.

4. Uhmm. He was given a choice...

Either go to the Jests and kiss Rex Ryan's ass or go to the Jests and kiss Rex Ryan's ass.

A two year veteran doesn't get a lot of choice in the Socialist World of the NFL.

5. Why would Tebow choose to be the backup in NY than the starter in Jacksonville

It's easy. He wouldn't. Elway probably didn't want to see Tebow succeed elsewhere, especially if Peyton can't play.

6. Who says he would be the starter?

I know Gabbert was awful but how do you know Mularkey would name Tebow especially since Jacksonville traded up just to get Gabbert.

8. I went digging, I perhaps need to dig some more

I came across this which doesn't mean discussions didn't include Tebow coming in as a starter.

Mularkey said internal talk about acquiring Tebow included him coming in as a backup QB. The coach declined to say whether the Jaguars intended to use Tebow mostly on special teams.

"Some of that's confidential to talk about, but we talked about all scenarios as far as the backup quarterback," Mularkey said. "He has some rare ability to do some things and all of that was discussed."
