Monfils and 5 others withdraw from Indian Wells due to sickness...

Two more players pulled out of the Indian Wells tennis tournament on Sunday with a virus, prompting Palm Springs area health officials to issue a health warning.

French 14th seed Gael Monfils and American Vania King withdrew from their matches Sunday at the hardcourt tournament. They joined Magdalena Rybarikova, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Andreas Seppi and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who have all complained of stomach problems.

King said her symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea.

"Just spent one of the worst nights of my life (gruesome details) fever, vomiting, diarrhea … all at the same time … caught a bug from someone," King said on her social networking site Twitter.

The stomach bug has been rampant this year.
I know so many folks who have gotten sick with it.

he was sort of rambling. Hope he sheds that fever soon because he's got Milos Raonic next which should be a bit more work than a qualifier.

Tough match for Roger...he admitted yesterday he was under the weather, but said it wasn't the stomach virus hitting all the others.

Roger beat Juan Martin ridiculously easily...I was thinking Juan would win today, he's been making it tighter against Roger and Roger's been under the weather...not the result I expected.

Sort of glad Isner won, but if Raf-roid beats Roger, he'll beat Isner...he wouldn't have beaten Djoker, who clearlyhas his numebr these days.

If so, I would say Isner is at a disadvantage oevr whoever gets through..then again, another 20 aces and he could just win it all.

at 2-5, or was it 3-5? Fortunately Roger didn't lose his composure...he seems to have it together so far this year.

updated rankings...he'll have gained some, and is closing the gap with Rafroid...Djoker is so far ahead though I still think he'll finsih #1...Roger's won 6 of his last 8 tournaments, losng to Rafroid at the Aussie, and technically losing to Tsonga when he pulled out with an injury in the tournament right before the Aussie.

Like I said, he's playing well but he's not in the zone this year like last year...he's getting beat now when no one could touch him last year...he'll lose points for this, so will Raf-roid, Roger will gain...I can't recall how far he got last year but for some reason I think he lost kind of early.

he was bowing out early to people he never lost to before.

I knew Djoker beat Rafa in the final...every article about this year mentions that...both will lose points, especially Djoker...these 1000 series events are important.

Kind of what I expected...congrats to John for a great tournament, but I think he's simply going to be the best American for a while...his game is decent but it's really his serve that is his weapon, and I don't think that will ever get him a Grand Slam.

..... Roddick has been a petulant ass on court for a while (even as his career falls apart). I don't know what's inside Mardy Fish's head this year but he's become something of a jerk, and Ryan Harrison has lots of potential, but he's a bit of head case sometimes.

Isner is just a big server, but then again it took Pete quite a way ... If I were his coach I'd have him working on his volleys. Way too many into the net ...

just back from the weekend at Indian Wells. Nobody was gonna beat Fed this tournament.....he seems rejuvenated. Rafa a bit out of sorts against Nalbandian and Fed. Isner has a LOT of room for improvement and I hope he goes after it. His serve is a monster....and he does have a lot of game. Needs to move better which will be tough. And yep, work on the volley. But men's tennis is in a great place. Women's not so much, unless some one can come along to challenge Azarenka. She seems poised for a year like Djock had last year.

Yes I'm enjoying the men's game right now - top 3 are so good and lots of guys coming up. In the 90s I mostly watched women's tennis because I got so bored with Pete. It's funny how it kind of goes in cycles like that.

Totally agree with you about the cycles. Loved women's tennis in the 90's. Still bummed about the Seles stabbing. Robbed us of all-time rivalries.....and of course sucked for her......
