Related: About this forumCan we talk about Adam LaRoche??
I understand being with your family and all, but his boss only asked him to bring his kid there a little less time. That was great that he was able to bring his son to work everyday, but maybe it's time to go to school now.

And here is an article about his time with the Washington Nationals

(64,995 posts)How many people actually think they have some right to bring their kid to work every day, all day.
And, the end of your first sentence: They have been in spring training for 5 weeks now. Why isn't that kid in school?

(56,177 posts)Name one job where your kid shows up every day to work. There isn't any...again, why isn't that kid in school?

(64,995 posts)When i was in grade school, one of my classmate's mom was a teacher there. So technically, her kid was there every day.
Kidding.
That said, it was a big grade school (over 1000 grades 1 through 8) and he obviously was not always in the grade she taught.
Seems most of us here on the same page, but there was talk here in Chicago that the players were talking about boycotting the next game. Of course, they didn't. So, the manufactured outrage led to the team MAYBE boycotting a meaningless game and then didn't actually do it.
What a tempest in a teapot.

(56,177 posts)And there were probably a few who asked that this kid not be there all the time.
ProfessorGAC
(64,995 posts)There were in fact players complaining behind the scenes. When he was in the trainer's room, the other players were having to "babysit". There was some carping.
Ken Williams would not have made an issue of it otherwise. It's not his style.

(64,995 posts)Big story on Chicago radio today. Tone deaf millionaire talking about workers' rights because a 14 year vet who's made 9 figures over the has career had a sad. Sale has requested a meeting with the owner because it's ruining the atmosphere in the clubhouse.
In a classy move, Williams still is taking all the heat and isn't naming any names as to who was complaining, but reporters with inside info say there were players that didn't like it.

Long ago, LaRoche prioritized bringing Drake with him over traditional schooling. He goes to class in winter. In Viera, he brings schoolwork with him and sees a private tutor at a Sylvan Learning Center. They live in a small Kansas town, and LaRoche arranged Drakes education with the public school. LaRoche said Drakes school is fine so long as Drake passes standardized tests.

(3,286 posts)...which I have noticed with men who become fathers at a young age, in this case 22 years old. They try too hard to offset that mistake with big, inappropriate gestures.
A DH...??? who the hell cares.

(38,451 posts)I found it odd. What if other players wanted their kids to come every day?
His kid seems fine but I dislike the trophy hunting LaRoche intensely.

(9,350 posts)I do not support Adam LaRoche in the least bit. He is a spoiled brat. It is sad that some athletes are supporting his behavior. It would be one thing if he was told he could not bring his son to the baseball park at all, but he was just asked to reduce the amount of time his son spend at the baseball park. That was no reason for someone to walk away from a contract.
There are other baseball players with son who do not take their sons to the ball park everyday. According to some news outlets, there are other baseball clubs that have clear rules that state that children are supposed to out of the clubhouse by a particular time.
Also, Adam LaRoche may be using his son for cover. It was reported this morning that LaRoche has a back injury that might have prevented him from being very active this season. In addition, LaRoche has had a 13 year career and has already made a large amount of money from baseball. So, it is possible that LaRoche was going to retire anyway and just used his son to cover up the fact that he was no longer able to have major league career.
