Jayson Werth, the starting left fielder for the Washington Nationals, spent some time at his weekend job the past few days. That's jail, if you missed the news.
Werth pleaded guilty to a reckless driving charge after he was caught zooming at 105 mph in a 55-mph zone last summer. He was sentenced to five days in jail. But he only has to go on the weekends, so it doesn't get in the way of his weekday baseball life. Smooth.
On Friday, Werth reported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center to start serving the first portion of his bid and by Saturday a dude on Reddit claimed to have Werth's autograph from jail. The Reddit poster wrote:
If your immediate reaction is to say think, "It's a fake!" you're certainly not alone. Who gets out of the jail and runs to Reddit first thing? The autograph does seem to resemble other authenticated Werth signatures on the market, but it's not out of the question that someone had an inmate handbook, studied Werth's signature and wanted to fool the Internet.
Hmmmm. Haven't seen TZ around lately. Could she be doing time?
