Dodgers surpass Yankees in overall payroll

For the first time since 1998, the Yankees no longer top baseball. That honor goes to the Dodgers in a runaway—with an estimated payroll of more than $235 million, the Dodgers project to spend more this year than any franchise ever has.

In all, 16 teams are expected to break the $100-million mark—also a record. The average MLB player's salary projects to somewhere just shy of $4 million.

2014 Opening Day team payrolls have been posted in the Baseball Group:

Let's hope for a Houston-Miami World Series. Wouldn't that be fun?

be rewarded with world series appearances. I have a lot of sympathy for the teams that try hard to be competitive but don't have the resources. I have NONE for the teams that routinely finish among the most profitable franchises while putting a crappy team on the field.
