Curt Schilling Says Red Sox Encouraged Him to Take PEDs

Curt Schilling was on Colin Cowherd’s show yesterday and said that Red Sox officials suggested that he use PEDs when his career was ending in 2008 due to a shoulder injury:

Asked for more details, Schilling said the conversation occurred in the clubhouse and involved “former members of the organization — they’re no longer there. It was an incredibly uncomfortable conversation. Because it came up in the midst of a group of people. The other people weren’t in the conversation but they could clearly hear the conversation. And it was suggested to me that at my age and in my situation, why not? What did I have to lose? Because if I wasn’t going to get healthy, it didn’t matter. And if I did get healthy, great.

The fact that he and the Red Sox differed on the sort of treatment he received back in 2008 was well-reported at the time, but no one to my knowledge ever talked about this sort of thing. And, it’s worth noting, Schilling has been known to engage in hyperbole in the past.

That said, this is quite an accusation. It seems to me that such an accusation is every bit as worthy of investigation by MLB as the Miami New Times story. Especially if the people he’s referring to still have jobs in Major League Baseball.

So, who do you hate more...the Red Sox or Schilling...it'll be obvious by your response!!!

1. A couple of points...

Schilling is a right-wing douchebag, which is something we can all agree on.

Then based on what you are saying, then the Roid Sox are the equivalent of baseball's Lance Armstrong. Sounds like those World Series Championships they won should be nullified.

BTW: Miami News Times?? Is that a paper owned by trumad??

2. It's not based on what I'm saying, it's what Curt is saying...

And I have trouble believeing any team would be so brazen about it...I think Curt is just trying to draw attention to himself...yet again.

3. If what Curt is saying is true, that really puts you in a pickle. Or are you going to use the Gregg

Williams defense. (He's not here any more, and blame it on the ones who are not here anymore)

5. Well, you'd have to ask why Curt says this now...

And will anyone else come forward to back him up, because he does say that others obviously heard the conversation.

13. Curt Schilling explains the whole PED thing, says he wasn’t trying to call attention to himself

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/08/curt-schilling-explains-the-whole-ped-thing-says-he-wasnt-trying-to-call-attention-to-himself/related/

Read the whole thing, but among the key takeaways:

•Schilling told Red Sox brass after it happened and MLB investigated, but admits he was less-than-forthcoming about it all to MLB because he didn’t want to get anyone in trouble; and
•When Schilling brought it all up on Wednesday he wasn’t trying to get attention. Rather, he was trying to make a point about how people who take PEDs aren’t necessarily bad people making bad decisions.

Well, OK then. I think his behavior in 2008 — blow a whistle and then not cooperate with the authorities — is curious-at-best for someone who portrays himself as one of the more anti-PED guys. And if he didn’t think his comments on Wednesday were going to cause a stir he hasn’t been paying attention to anything he’s said or done for the past decade or so. But it is Curt Schilling we’re talking about so anything is possible.
