American League Eastern Division: Yankees 1
American League Western Division: A's 1, Texas 1

American League Eastern Division

The New York Yankees clinched a tie for the division title last night when they came from behind beat the Boston Red Sox, 4-3 in 12 innings. The Baltimore Orioles can still tie the Yankees, but the Orioles must defeat the Tampa Bay Rays today in Tampa and the Red Sox must take down the Yankees in New York or the Yankees are division champions. If the Orioles fail to catch today the Yankees and beat them tomorrow in a playoff, they will see post season action as a wild card team. If the Orioles succeed in that task, the Yankees will be a wild card team and face the loser of today's game in Oakland.

The Oakland A's beat the Texas Rangers last night, 3-1, to leave the division race in a flat tie after 161 games. The two teams go at it in just a few minutes in Oakland with the winner to emerge as division champion and the loser as a wild card.

If the Yanks lose and the Birds win, they play again tomorrow. You are so 2011!

On edit: And the A's and Rangers are in the Western Division. At least I'm not that geographically challenged!

Point one, as I said . . .

If the Orioles fail to catch the Yankees and beat them tomorrow in a playoff, they will see post season action as a wild card team.

Would you mind telling me what is inaccurate about that statement?

Point two: well, cutting and pasting has its limitations.

"If the Orioles catch the Yankees and beat them tomorrow in a playoff, they will see post season action as the division champion."

Or: "If the Orioles fail to catch the Yankees, they will see post season action as a wild card team."
