Unbeaten Frankel, the highest-rated racehorse in the world by Timeform and the recipient of accolades from the international racing press normally reserved for the sports historical titans, will enter uncharted territory on Wednesday in the Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-G1) at York against a field far tougher than any he has faced this year.
The brilliant Galileo (Ire) colt, who has won eight Group 1 stakes and has toyed with his opposition in three starts during his four-year-old campaign, will attempt a distance longer than a mile for the first time in the about 1 5/16-mile Juddmonte International, a race sponsored by his owner and breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah.
Frankels trainer Sir Henry Cecil told reporters on Monday after post positions were set that his superstar was in good order heading into the race and that he felt the added distance would not be a problem.
Abdullah also entered Frankels designated pacemaker Bullet Train in the race, and, more intriguingly, 2011 Juddmonte International winner Twice Over (GB), who has won four Group 1 races in a stellar six-year career but may have lost a step at age seven.
