WAC to drop football after 2012 season

The Western Athletic Conference will not play football past the 2012 season, and may fold altogether if unable to find additional non-football members, according to commissioner Jeff Hurd.

Seven schools — Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Texas State, Utah State and the University of Texas at San Antonio — will compete in the WAC's final football season this year.

Wow! Looks like those schools will be joining C-USA and MWC. Texas State and UTSA just started playing Div I football.

it has to be eight teams.

edit: On the other hand, they'd make a nice pickup for C-USA: its first expansion to the Left Coast and California's rich recruiting grounds.
