David Nalbandian investigated by police after line judge injury

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18479244

Police are investigating a complaint of alleged assault against David Nalbandian, who was disqualified from the Aegon Championships final after a line judge was injured.

The Argentine, 30, was leading Marin Cilic 7-6 (7-3) 3-4 at Queen's when he kicked a panel in front of Andrew McDougall's seat. McDougall's leg was cut and umpire Fergus Murphy awarded the match to Cilic despite boos from the crowd.

The incident happened after Nalbandian missed a lunging forehand in the second set. He kicked an advertising hoarding, which flew off its hinges and struck McDougall in the shin, causing a large gash.

He was deemed guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct and his £36,500 prize money was withdrawn and he could be hit with a further fine.

I didn't see the video of it...I mean, if he kicked that simply because it was the nearest thing, then there's no intent...if he kicked it knowing the line judge was near by, that's another story.

...but I don't think there's any way he could not have known that the line judge was right behind the advertising board. It's only a small advertising board right by the line judge's shin.

He'd won the first set...no reason to be frustrated...I don't think he has a reputation as a hothead, but he could get it from this.

But criminal charges are a bit of a stretch. I doubt he expected or intended for the panel to hit the line judge. He wasn't even reacting to a call he disliked. It was just a mishap.

That's the ONLY way Andy Murray will win!
